Here are some things from the scrimmage & practice this past week.

* Defense won the day scrimmage wise. The 1st team offense wasn’t ever able to punch it in for a TD. They had multiple drives that gave them 1st and goal but either had to kick a FG or got stopped on 4th down when going for it.

*Leary moved the ball well a couple times on drives but no TD. Tayvion had a couple nice deep catches 30+ yards beating the defense and Leary’s touch on them were perfect. Tayvion was the best WR on the day.

* Barion was held out of the scrimmage bc of a left hammy strain but it’s not too serious and they just want to be cautious with him(he did run a few reps and get some routes in practice during the week, but still didn’t do much)

* Anthony Brown has been getting all kinds of run with the 1st team offense and is a huge deep threat. They have had him run lots of deep go routes in practices and scrimmage. He’s going to play a good amount until Dekel can get back in the coaches good graces.

* Offensive line has looked good. Leary has had good time for almost all the snaps. O-line did a good job picking up some of the new defensive blitz packages they introduced this week. Flax has been getting more of the RT reps but he & Courtland having been swapping in and out. There is defintely a battle of who is going to win the starting role.

* RB wise Ray Davis is the starter but there has definitely been a RB by committee with quite a few guys getting some good reps on the 1st team with Ramon Jefferson, Sumo, La’vell. Ramon has looked really good at times. He could be a really good X factor for the RB room.

* The secondary has looked really strong in practices and scrimmage. Harriston, Childress, & Phillips have been making some really nice plays and had great coverage. They have made it tough on the WRs & Leary. Childress had a nice pick on Leary in practice coming under the WR on a deep out and picked one right before going out of bounds.

* The LBs are all over the place and making plays. Lots of speed and size. JJ has been very vocal and the defensive leader on and off the field. He’s talking with a lot of the younger guys and was even working 1on1 with Marques Cox during the scrimmage helping Cox get off quickly during simulated snaps as JJ would rush. JJ is carrying the additional weight great and still moving extremely well.

* The DL has some great size and youth contributing. Deone is just a beast and is always getting a huge push. Jamarius Dinkins is the next young talent getting some significant 1st team reps. He’s going to be a good young guy to contribute this year. FR Kendrick Gilbert definitely looks the part. He running with 2nd team but he’s a big body and good one we got.

* Our new kicker Alex Raynor definitely has a leg. He’s made every kick during practice and scrimmage from live play. He made a couple from 45+ with room to spare. Definitely a solid pickup for the kicking game.
