I'm seeing some mixed reactions regarding the potential addition of Aly Khalifa, but I don't think people realize that he is considered an elite passing big man. You can't just look at his stats from last season and write him off. He is not being recruited as a starter. However, as a role playing depth player, he plays his role extremely well. Pope's teams went about 11 deep as opposed to the 7-8 that we are used to seeing under Cal. We need to have exceptional role players and players who are willing to "be that guy" the further we go down the bench.

In December, the "Egyptian Magician" was on pace to break the NCAA assist-to-turnover record...as a 6'11" big man. https://bvmsports.com/2023/12/23/me...reaking-ncaa-assist-to-turnover-ratio-record/

"He's a unicorn."

He finished 14th in assists per game in the Big 12 while playing less than 20 mpg. Everybody ahead of him averaged 30 mpg except for Dallin Hall (29.3 mpg). https://www.espn.com/mens-college-b...up/8/table/offensive/sort/avgAssists/dir/desc

He makes his teammates better. This video starts about 8 minutes in and showcases what Khalifa does.

He forces defenses to respect his ability to hit the open 3 and and he has a career 71 FT%.

He's humble, personable, and down-to-earth. He'll be a senior that fans would love.
