Kentucky v. Houston

Single up the middle by Cottam and then Collette getting some big swings but not getting a hold of it. He then flies out to deep center for out one. Heyer up and he falls behind early, but battling before going down on strikes. Cumbie has some nasty stuff. Johnson falls behind early 0-2 and then hits a LINE DRIVE ROUND TRIPPER!!!!!!

7-0 KENTUCKY!!!
RJ with a 2 run pay day !!

Hard hit in the gap between center and left, but Aklinski runs it down for out number one. Hjelle getting a generous strike zone on the outside against lefties and that helped him get ahead and then draw a grounder to Dawson for out two. Hjelle then gives up a walk. Still not the sharpest he's ever been, but he's making some good pitches. Grounder past Cottam puts runners on the corners. Cougars in a bit of a good spot here with 2 outs. Belanger out to talk to Hjelle and the defense. Grounder to ARod to end the inning!!

UK leading 7-0 going to the 4th.

That last out was huge as I believe it will bring up their power hitter with no one on.

Four pitch walk for Dawson. Houston has a man working in the pen. Squires grounds one to the pitcher and effectively moves the runner up 90 feet. Aklinski will be looking at a new pitcher.

Freshman Trevis Sunderland now coming in ton pitch. His first appearance of the season. Interesting choice by Houston. Don't want to say they are throwing this game away, but this is a weird choice for a pitcher.

Aklinski flies out to deep center. Takes the first pitch he sees. UK likes to do that. Personally would like to see them look at a few first, but that's all right. Becker blasts one off the wall!!! Triple!!!! That went to deep center and just misses a home run. 8-0 UK!!

Cottam gets two real good pitches to hit and fouls them off before HOME RUN TO LEFT!!!! 10-0!!!!

Collette flies out to right to end the UK 4th. Man this game has been fun so far. Haha

Pretty sure it's Collett. Does anyone know of a place to get live stats?

Hjelle gets a fly to right before giving up a dying quail single to shallow left center. A hard hit ball up the middle gets past the diving Becker to put runners on first and second with 1 out. Another grounder up the middle scores a run for Houston. Got to say, that could have probably been a double play ball, but Dawson seemed to react a bit late. 10-1 Kentucky.

Pretty deep fly to left sends Heyer back but he brings it in. 2 outs with runners on the corners. Another deep fly to Heyer. He does a great job in a tricky left field to bring it in close to the corner.

I love the unique outfield setups like this field has.

Johnson gets one in the square of the back. Right between the shoulders and Pompey gives him a hard time about it. ARod skied one to left and it should have been a can of corn but the left fielder just straight dropped it. Boy, that's embarrassing. Dawson also skies one to shallow center that the second baseman takes. Squires falls behind early and pops up to the catcher for the second out. Aklinski singles right back up the middle and scores Johnson.

This poor freshman pitcher will be having nightmares about this game.

Kentucky up 12-1 in the 5th with two outs and runners on first and second and Houston going to another new pitcher. Lefty Griffin Hattingh is another freshman who is making his first start. I believe Houston has really mailed this one in

Becker goes lefty/lefty and grounds out to first to end the UK 5th.

I like the tone it sets for the two other games. They've got to be looking us taking the ace of Houston out of the game early and wondering.

Henderson also on the third base side watching his former team and recruits tear up a top 20 team.

Hjelle gets a pop up to second for out number one. Past ball moves the runners up and takes away the double play and sure enough a ground ball to second goes for out two. Would have been and easy double play ball but instead it scores a run. Heyer then once again works thr corner for a fly ball out number three. 12-2 UK going to the 6th.

Cottam grounds out to second to start the sixth. Collett then draws a one out walk. Heyer hitting behind Collett is just unfair. He goes down on a called strike that looked mighty tight. Johnson rios a grounder up the middle past the diving short stop. ARod fists off a high fastball that goes into the hole at first. Tough play but Houston makes it for out 3.

12-2 UK going to the bottom 6.

Two errors for us so far. Not being as focused in the field as we should be. Shortstop and third base.

Hjelle gets a grounder to first and he covers while Cottam takes it and they make the easy 1-3 put out. Hjelle gets a strikeout!! Grounder to ARod who one hops it to first and Cottam can't handle it. Runner advanced to second on the error. Aklinski runs one down in very deep center for out 3.

Going to the 7th up 12-2

Houston making some defensive changes now. New catcher and new center fielder.

Dawson flies out to right. Squires draws a 4 pitch walk. Squires advances to second on a wild pitch. Aklinski doubles into center, but Squires has to hold because the fly ball is almost caught by the center fielder who gave it a diving effort but it hit off the heel of his glove. Becker then ripped one on the ground to first to score Squires and advance Aklinski. 13-2 Kentucky. Cottam walks and the full count ball 4 gets by the catcher and Aklinski scores easily to put UK up 14-2.

Collett grounds one up the middle right at short who goes the easy way to step on second and end the Kentucky 7th.

Cumbie, their starter had given up only one extra base hit and 3 singles in his first two games.

Wow... announcer just said that this will be the last inning if Houston doesn't score 2 or 3 because we will run rule them. Coleman now in.
