Everyone keeps bringing up his name....why? What's he done so amazing? I'm at a loss....what's this guy done other than everyone likes him and such.
-Highest finish ever is a 4th place in conference
-10 losses every single year
-Overall 59.9% winning
So look at San Francisco....
Kyle Smith was there 3 years before Golden
San Fran
-Kyle Smith: 63-40 (61.2%) (28-24 Conference) Finished 4th every year, no NCAA tournament
-Todd Golden: 57-36 (61.3%) (23-22 Conference) Highest finish was 4th, 1 time. 1 NCAA tournament
So...he didn't really do well at San Fran, the guy before him did pretty much the same. He didn't inherit a mess....
Florida...Mike White's last 2 years...
-Mike White: 34-23 (59.6%) (18-16 in SEC Play) Finished 5th both years
-Todd Golden: 40-29 (58.0%) 20-16 in SEC Play) 8th place and 6th place finishes
So what's so special about this guy? Florida isn't Kentucky...but they've won 2 titles. Can't really say he was at terrible programs and it's not fair....considering he's pretty much done the same as his predecessors at both jobs. There's nothing on this guy's resume that screams elite or guy that needs more resources. He's the young name everyone likes.
When we get to that point in the search....I know there's guys YOU LIKE and YOU JUST KNOW they'll be good. But then there are facts. Nothing about Golden says he'd be great at all.
Recruiting?
In his 3 classes at Florida...
-5 3-star players
-1 4-star player
-1 unranked
Doesn't win.
Doesn't recruit well.
What's the sell?
