CODY RILEY - Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, CA); 2017 PF; 6'-7"; 200; 5-Star; 247Sports rank 11 and says KU is 100% favorite - 12/18/2014 lost to Trinity H.S. (Louisville, KY) with Raymond Spalding 59 - 70; FG 6/16; 3's 0/3; FT 12/16; Reb 8; PF 4; TP 24; A 1; TO 3; Blk 0; Stl 2; Min 25:52 - Good body; posts up well; big dunks on lobs; nice touch on free throws; Left handed; 4th foul @ 3:10 of 3rd quarter; competitive; stood up urging team while on the bench; wanted the ball in crunch times. I didn't see Poythress as a high school soph, but I'll bet his body was similar to what Riley's is. I'm not saying he plays like Alex, just that their bodies are similar.
12/19/2014 - Beat Archbishop Carroll (Radnor, PA) with Derrick Jones 59 - 55; FG 7/11; 3's 0/2; FT 8/11; Reb 9; PF 3; TP 22; A 0; TO 4; Bk 1; Stl 0; Min 24:22 - With the game starting at 10:25AM after yesterday's game, both teams looked a little tired. Cody looked sluggish and didn't have the energy nor motor, that he had yesterday. Still, he had a good stat sheet against a talented Derrick Jones led Philly area team.
I talked to Cody 12/19/2014 a few hours after his game today and asked him if the 247Sports
projection that he is 100% Kansas at this time was accurate. He said "No," and said he is from Kansas and maybe that is why they say that. I asked if he knew who else was from Kansas and told him Willie Cauley-Stein. He showed nothing but a blank look, so I asked him if he knew who that was and he said, "No." Asked if he had seen UK play, and he said he is too busy with basketball to follow that. He is just a kid and I believe he was being totally honest with me.
12/22/2014 - Beat Webster Groves (Webster Groves, MO) 58- 42; FG 2/7; 3's 0/2; FT 1/3; Reb 8; PF 4; TP 5; A 0; TO 3; Bk 2; Stl 0; Min 15:07 - At most events with this kind of talent, the refs don't call a lot of fouls and let the kids play through contact. Not this game. Riley was handcuffed by the refs this game, so only had 15 minutes of playing time. He was obviously frustrated and didn't have the opportunity to show his game. This was just a "throw away" game for me.
12/23/2014 - Beat Wayne (Huber Heights, OH) 61- 56; FG 1/6; 3's 1/2; FT 4/9; Reb 6; PF 5; TP 7; A 0; TO 4; Bk 3; Stl 1; Min 30:24 - Disappointed in his game today. Maybe he was tired from 4 games in 5 days or maybe he hasn't learned to compete every game. Triple-teamed most of the game. However, I think I'll keep an eye on how this kid progresses.
