He’s had issues with this for a while and has had multiple times they thought they were gonna have to amputate as far as I know.

Old Age is a bummer… Hopefully his foot doesn’t have to be amputated!
Hate to hear that. Sounds like neuropathy which I have had in my feet for over 20 years. They don't have any really good treatments for it but I've had pretty good luck with high intensity laser and using an infrared pad at home. Doesn't really bother me except on long trips. I can still play tennis 2x a week.

I had a lisfranc injury in 2013. I have bouts of neuropathy and bad pain from time to time. I fear this is where I am headed
He said if they have to do it, he wants it soon so it won't interfere with the season and recruiting. If not soon, will have to put it off until next year.
Most neuropathy is traceable to diabetes but not all. There are other causes but it still remains somethng of a mystery to the medical community.
I have it, not diabetic. I think mine can be traced back to some nerve damage to a severe leg injury. So far no amputations but it is progressing.
So it must be hereditary as well. I have a parent and a sibling with both but my A1C is always low.
My buddy a diabetic had the same problem. No blood flow to his foot. Went on for years. They did a bypass in his leg because they thought blockage. After like 7 years of nearly losing his foot they found the blockage was some where between his heart and waste. They had to remove an artery and replace it with an artificial artery made of nylon. He’s doing much better now no problems in the foot. Hopefully they find a way to save deons foot

I thought that DSanders' issues also came after an injury of sorts. Someone else may knlw better, but I think he had frost bite or something years ago. Climing a mountain or.... ?
Maybe I'm thinking of another sports star, but I thought for sure it was him.

I’ve suffered from neuropathy for over 5 years now. I still walk just fine, but have near constant low grade foot tingling / numbness and extreme sensitivity to heat and cold.
Hate to hear this about Coach Prime.
I have this crap also, not easy to get along with at times... I hate it during the winter time, I feel like my feet are frozen all the time... Even in the summer they are still cold but not as bad... Thew tingling drives me crazy at times, it kind of strange to explain at times.. Some times they tingle and still are numb but very sensitive to thing's... Makes not sense to try to get along with this strange feelings...

This stems from the numerous turf toe injuries Deion suffered in the NFL. I remember as a kid we would make fun of him for not playing because his toe hurt and accused him of ducking top WRs. We were pretty ignorant.
Thanks, just one of the things you have to deal with as we age. I had read about Prime having some toes removed, wasn't sure why other than circulation issues. And then this recent news is an eye opener. I have to see a couple of specialist about my issues, trust me on this, when you are the only patient there with both feet you want to follow their instructions.
There is a condition called Raynaud's disease where the blood vessels in the hands and feet to feel cold all the time. I have a friend who suffers from it.
Thanks for the post. I have had it since about 2007 at least, but the pain and numbness didn't get bad until about 8 years ago. I don't notice it much except sometimes when I try to go to sleep. My VA Dr gives me Gabapentin for the pain, and also nonprescription vitamins, D3, fish Omega, and one I forgot because of my memory they claim my memory isn't that bad, LOL. But about the only time I notice the pain is when I try to go to sleep. I have never had any health issues until I got bleeding ulcers about 50 years ago, but an Australian Doctor cured them with an article, in the Readers Digest, Doctors told him he was crazy, but he won a Nobel Prize for his cure about 20 years later. That type of ulcers could be a big problem for Kentucky natives.
No diabetes ever or any other problems before that, still have my appendix and tonsils, and that might help. He thought binge drinking might be the cause, but I never had a drink until I was 27 right after I got out of UK and very seldom have a drink now. But I tried to make up for lost time for a decade or two.

So instead of breaking the big toe like stubbing it on the wall, you sprain the big toe joint where you hyperextend it. People that are very explosive off the line, like sprinters, get it a lot.
Here's what I was trying to explain. So it's this position that causes it, just the push off and you bend that big toe just a hair too far.

Yeah, Deion messed up his foot with turf toe back in the day, I think his big toe was totally rebuilt at least twice. Probably where it started.
When I split my ankle in two, and broke a ton of bones in my foot, they were like “you’ll be fine. You only bruised your linsfranc, so consider yourself lucky.” The only issue I’ve had so far is that my big toe feels cold sometimes when I know it’s not, nothing major. Good luck to prime time and his foot!

Some neuropathy can be traced to diabetes, but not most. Many diabetics have neuropathy, but there are many causes for neuropathy. Trauma, circulatory issues, primary neurologic diseases, alcoholism, lead poisoning, and other various toxicities are some other common causes. Neuropathy is not a mystery, anymore than any other illness is. We understand quite a lot about neuropathies because of modern advances in the neurosciences. For example, advanced research in the neurosciences has achieved greater comprehension at Univ. of Florida and here at the Mayo Clinic, where entire divisions are funded for groundbreaking research.
In Deion's case, he may indeed suffer from neuropathies, but neuropathies are not taking his toes. This is happening due to some kind of a circulatory issue. His feet are not receiving enough blood flow. Thus the peripheral ischemia. This sounds like advanced atherosclerosis, with or without associated diabetes mellitus. I suppose Deion also probably drinks a lot, as many football players do, although I probably should not assume.
He’s had blood clots before and had part of the left leg removed a while back. Sounds like he gets to keep his foot…for now.

Close friend in college dated a girl who had that. I swear I thought she made it up when she said she had that, but it's a real thing. Think she took chromium supplements for it... weird that I temember it (but she was model hot, so the entire convo is seared in my memory) I think it helps expand the blood vessels for better circulation and reduces the pain. Either that or eating more garlic...? Lol. The sht I remember and yet I can't find my keys or remember my wife's name to introduce her sometimes. Wth

Question from someone dealing with issues on one of my feet for years (numbness/tingling). Is the infrared pad and such things you can purchase without RX? Or is this all through a doctor?
I’m almost certain that’s not right. He had hammer toe and other deformities on his foot due to his numerous turf toe injuries and surgeries. He had elective surgery to fix it, developed blood clots, lost 2 toes, and almost lost his leg.
