Hello HOB. Time for another edition of the John Calipari weekly radio show. I'll be following along as usual and sharing all the major talking points with you here in this thread. Show starts at 6 ET. Stay tuned...
* Team is taking a couple of days off to get their bodies back. The whole team went to see Drake at Rupp Arena last night, and they had them back in the locker room before it started. A lot of fun. Says Drake is a superstar now, but he's the same guy as when they originally met. Cal was blown away by the crowd that was there to see him. Says he's got a scholarship to UK at any time if he wants to pursue his college degree someday.
* Really happy for Antonio, Rob, Reed, DJ making the coaches' All-SEC teams. Cal says he wishes Justin Edwards had made the All-Freshman team. Thought he may have pushed for it the way he finished the season.
* At a team meal, Cal showed them 10 defensive possessions from the Tennessee game that made the difference. "This is who we are now." Some time to work on a few things they may want to focus on in the postseason these next couple of days before heading to Nashville.
* Calipari says, since there was only 5.9 seconds left when Rob Dillingham was shooting his second FT, he told the team during the timeout they were going to foul if he missed. Different from the other situations they've been in this season leading by three with more time on the clock. But Rob said, "I'm not missing."
* Great game to go on the road and win. "The whole country was picking us to win," Cal deadpans.
* Calipari says Tennessee is a 1 seed, no question. Just doesn't understand how his team is so far down the NET list. "You're not screwing us, you're screwing the other teams."
* Caller wants to know about how SECT may affect UK's seeding... Cal says there's still no bearing whatsoever on whether you win or lose on Sunday. Another reason he doesn't like how SEC plays title game on Sunday is they may get put in a Thursday opener for the NCAAT. Adds that this SECT is going to be "a bear."
* Message to the team entering the tourney: "Let's go have a ball and show who we are."
* Caller wants to know about the Sheppard, Dilingham, Reeves, Edwards, Z lineup... Says Justin is the one really making that so dangerous. This last game, Z wasn't physical enough to be in there, but Ugo was ready to step up and do the things needed to win the game. Also likes DJ mixed in with that group and feels good.
* Told the team today that the way DJ is guarding the ball and changing them on defense is so good, nobody needs to worry about him scoring. If he knocks one down or drives and scores, fine, but his big value is what he's bringing on defense.
