Clemson 80 plays UK 50

If someone wanted to call in to the coaches show or send our HC a letter, they might want to send him a write up on the Steelers vs Bengals game this past week. Stoops seems to respect Mike Tomlin. Tomlin has been a play not to lose guy for many years, and it's cost the franchise.

Instead of going conservative from their own 5 yard line, they attacked and finished a 95 uard drive. With a 21pt lead at the end of the first half of that game, Tomlin wanted his QB and his offense to be aggressive, and the former 3rd stringer led them to a FG in under 2 minutes.

These are not things we've seen out of Tomlin, so new tricks CAN BE learned. Wisdom can be gained, if the HC is willing to not give in to more cowardly instincts and attack. "Make mistakes of aggression" rather than live in fear of failure. Football is not meant to be played with your offense curled up in a safely wrapped ball of bubble wrap and duct tape. Cut that dang umbilical cord already

50 plays doesn't make kids happy. Limited targets and runs for a lot of kids. We wanted to play slow in the third quarter and it cost us. After the Brown return we went slow ball until we got behind.
The 4 4th quarter TOs are what cost us, not playing slower in the third. We were up 11 when the 3rd ended.

Clemson when they were competing for NCs would tell you they needed to run 90 plays and that only enforces the need to keep your defense fresh.
We didn’t win because we didn’t play to win. We played not to lose. Wish we had kept up the pressure on pass plays because Klubnik was not comfortable running around back there.

1. UK defense is always welcome to get off the field on 3rd down.....the bend but not break philosophy is part of what keeps UK on field way too long.
2. UK can't establish run game like a few years back with Yenser at Oline coach.....that unit simply can't control LOS anymore.
3. Leary can't throw middle of field is why slants are not in playbook. He is short, gets balls tipped game in and game out. Which is why he prefers the outside the numbers throws and deep balls too much. Those aren't as easy to tip.

All in all....a bad year for the goal of growing the program.

Sure, number of plays is everything. Brown should of taken a knee on the kickoff return and long pass play so we could have run a few more. On the four play drive, Ray Davis should have dropped to the ground after twenty yards and Brown could have certainly run out of bounds at the ten so we could have run more plays. That doesn't even mention that selfish ass Dingle running all the way down the sideline for 60 plus yards. He could of stepped out anywhere.

Our selfish players cost us a lot of plays trying for the big gains.

KO return for TD and 3 consecutive turnovers on offense cost UK at least 12 plays.
Kentucky scored too quickly on their last scoring drive. a couple more run plays and Clemson woukd not have enough time to score on their last drive. Of course that's hindsight and you score when you can.

Scored really quick also. Kick return TD. Turnovers. 20 out of 80 Clemson plays were negative yardage. Can’t lose that game. But only good teams win. We were great today. You cover the opening and closing line, you’re a great team in my book.

Yep d stayed on the field all 4th. Made the difference
