Barnhart vs Calipari: Failures in Transitional Leadership

If Cal type recruits aren't Pope type recruits Pope is in trouble. Everyone wants the best of the best. If not you will at best have a second rate program.

The whole Pope learned under Pitino is just garbage. Pitino's style was exciting but he didn't win anything until he got Masburn who was an extremely talented player. I was at the final four in New Orleans when he gave the ball to Masburn at the top of the key and he took his man one on one every player for the last half of the second half. We would have won if Mashburn didn't foul out. It was GREAT offense it was a great player. After that game he attracted even more great players and ended up with a team of 8 or 9 PROS before he won a championship. If you don't remember that then you weren't paying attention.
Pitino developed players. Calipari didn't. Pope will develop players.

You sure didn't think this thru, did you? Pitino came to UK during probation and went 14 and 14 with very little talent and no superstars. A year earlier with AA's on the roster, Sutton had a losing record.

Pitino brought in Mash the very next season and we won the SEC but were ineligible for the tournament. To say that "he didn't win anything until he got Mashburn" might be one of the dumbest things I hae read on this board, and that is saying a lot.
