Suggest you all go check it out for yourselves on iTUNES or another podcast source. He had the Ark media person who broke the story. Here are a couple notes (I don't have time to do the whole show so listen for yourselves):
General Info:
- Cal wanted Brad on staff and UK wouldn't allow it
- UA will be renovating Bud Walton arena (Cal helps with the money piece to pay for it)
- UA is already sending NIL reminders out to fans (hope UK is this organized)
- Muss paved the way for Cal at UA by showing it was still a desirable job
- Cal at UK was toxic, Cal thought he was going to be fired after next season
- Arkansas standard is much lower than UK, just make a Sweet Sixteen and they're thrilled
Coaching Candidates:
- Dan Hurley buyout is $7.5M - he is getting a new contract no matter what (won't be Hurley)
- Oats buyout is obstacle, will UK pay it? $18M. Sources say it's possible
- UK must contact Jay Wright - no buyout so you can offer him insane offer
- UK must contact Brad Stevens - same as Jay - sell him on winning a championship
- Chris Beard is there for the taking (I like him as a coach, but understand the baggage)
- Scott Drew's name is out there (he will bring his recruiting class) - worried he's never faced criticism
- Rick Pitino wants a big job, but he only wants to be in NYC or Miami
- Bruce Pearl is too old
- Nick Cronin, no...buyout is big and he's no good
- Mark Pope at BYU, good coach, dark horse. Players love him.
- Shaka Smart, not a good fit, he only wants to recruit a certain type of player who aren't elite
- Billy Donovan may work out, he's a good candidate
- Sean Miller is a strong second tier candidate
- Mark Few proved his coaching chops this season, second tier candidate
Recruit Predictions:
- BOMBSHELL!!! Travis Perry - Cal didn't want him, offered and asked him NOT TO COMMIT. Perry loved UK so much he said screw it and committed anyway.
- JQ to Ark
- Boogie Fland Open (was down to UK and Indiana) - Ricky P. back in it. Maybe UCONN
- Sonto - Not elite, unlikely at UK, UK admin wanted him cut loose for portal guys
- Karter Knox - likely to follow to Ark
- Billy Richmond - likely to follow to Ark (all his previous schools have new coaches)
