Your top 3 NASCAR drivers of all time?

As I said Gordon won 7 “points championships”. Sure, he didn’t win a “championship” but based on the traditional format he had the best team all season 3 times yet didn’t come home with a trophy, it’s needs to be taken into account. Gordon also never had a drop off like Pearson and Johnson. Outside of his rookie year Gordon never finished outside of top 10 points but one time (2005) from 1994-2015.

Gordon also has more crown jewel and grand slam wins than any driver in NASCAR Cup history. He also has the most modern era (1972-present) NASCAR Cup wins. He also won the most single season wins in the modern era. He has the most wins at restrictor plate and road courses in history. He is also the only driver in consideration to win the Rolex 24 at Daytona.
Maybe they should retroactively give him a Helms trophy. 😂

I also never said a word about mainstream. You said that, not me. Gordon has meant way more for the sport in terms of success and sport growth than both Pearson and Johnson. If you argue otherwise this conversation is completely pointless because it’s a dead ass wrong opinion.
JJ was and still is the only racecar driver to be named the Male Athlete of the year by the AP. Not Gordan, Earnhardt, Schumacher, Hamilton, Dixon or any other driver from any other form of motorsports. I would think that had to help with the growth of the sport as well.

There's certainly an argument to be made for Jimmie Johnson. He's definitely top 5.

Mark Martin
Kyle Bush

Top 4 (Modern Era)
Dale Earnhardt Sr.
Jeff Gordon
Jimmy Johnson
Kyle Bush

Most hated :
Jeff Gordon
Jimmy Johnson
Chase Elliott
Kyle Larson

So you don't like Hendrick Motor Sports huh? 😂
I guess. It is just their personalities more than who they race for. But I do despise Hendrick. he is a cheater on and off the track. Kind of ironic he employs drivers who are kind of the same.
Gordon and Johnson just didn't have a personality and Gordon whined too much. Kyle Larson is a racist arrogant prick. Chase Elliott is the golden boy and i guess the media more than anything else ha caused me to not like him. Logano, is really, really close to knocking one of those guys of the top 4. He is probably there now.

Watched the first episode of Earnhardt last night, excellent I thought. To answer the question, I am thinking about who got the most out of the least equipment. Earnhardt was on an underfunded team early in his career and won, so you have to go with him. Up through the early 80s there were still maybe a dozen teams that had a significant financial advantage. Petty and Pearson didn't have huge financial advantages during their prime, and Petty was underfunded the last 10-15 years. So I would go with those two as well. After that, Gordon or Johnson, but neither was ever underfunded. Definitely a matter of opinion, but I would take Gordon. Kyle Larson may be better than both of those guys. He can drive anything. I bet if you put him on a horse, he would win the Kentucky Derby.

I had season tickets at Texas Motor Speedway, row 11 right by the start/finish line from the day it opened through 2010. Lived in Charlotte before that and went to several races there, N Wilkesboro, Rockingham and Talladega. Without a doubt, my favorite memory ever from one of those races was watching Dale Earnhardt run down pit road to get to Victory Lane after Junior won his first Cup race at Texas.

The lost me when they came out with the Car of Tomorrow. The racing got boring and I lost interest. Dropped my season tickets after NASCAR track owners got a bunch of money when they passed the Stimulus Package after the Great Recession. Just rubbed me wrong that those rich guys had their hands out, when they were pricing out their blue collar fans at the same time.
