Worst run in the 2014 NCAA Tourney

Each year (just for the fun of it) I like to check and see who had the worst run in the tournament. We talk about someone having a good run or a great run at the championship but, what would the opposite be? There have been a few threads recently stating the illogical argument that if team A beats team B and team B beats team C then team A is automatically better than team C. That would make Oklahoma the worst team in the tournament (untrue), or with the worst luck (maybe), or with the worst run (my point).

2014 NCAA Basketball Tournament

Oklahoma lost to North Dakota State
North Dakota State lost to San Diego State
San Diego State lost to Arizona
Arizona loss to Wisconsin
Wisconsin loss to Kentucky
Kentucky lost to Connecticut

ok I get it. But that made me work too hard to understand your point.

For everyone else : See, it's like he's saying "Vandy beat the Vols, and the Vols beat UK, so Vandy is better than UK" type-argument, but he's doing it from the perspective of who's WORSE in the NCAAT last year - but in REVERSE (to use that type argument as to who is worst). And hell, I dunno if even that explains it best or not !!!

(at least try and give me credit for taking a stab at an explanation for those that don't get it)

I call it "Vandy Logic" down here in Nashville, because it always seems that the Vandy fans I know are going that route when they talk basketball.... all I can do is shake my head.

but, yeah I get your point, OP. I'd suggest not using it too much because that kind of "reverse vandy logic" isn't the best way to get a point across. That's just a really round about way of trying to get too cute with making an analogy. Not a knock on you, because you obviously put some thought into it, but I'm just trying to gently let you down.

I sense a wave of Rafter's derision and lambasting for the post, so I just wanted to be first to try and let you down, all gentle-like.

No mention of Dayton's run? Knocked off big brother Ohio State, Syracuse and Stanford.
So Ohio State and Syracuse pretty much choked. Oh Duke losing the Mercer.

So the argument is Oklahoma lost to the team (NDSU) that lost to the team (SDSU) that lost to the team (UA) that lost to the team (UW) that lost to the team (UK) that lost to the champ (UConn)?

I thought it made perfect sense. Apparently, I was less right than I thought I was. In 2014 the worst run was made by Harvard. Of all 64 teams in the tournament Harvard is the ONLY team which follows this scenario. I'm not badmouthing Harvard, I just find it interesting that in every tournament there is one and only one team that fits this chain of loses.

2012 NCAA Tournament Ultimate Fails

Harvard loses to Vanderbilt
Vanderbilt loses to Wisconsin
Wisconsin loses to Syracuse
Syracuse loses to Ohio State
Ohio State loses to Kansas
Kansas loses to Kentucky

I will try to do better in the future. I still find it interesting.

I like this. In other words, the team the OP is referring to is the team that can take the least amount of solace in their NCAA tournament loss, because the team they lost to, lost their next game, and so on, and so on.

It's the exact opposite of the team that wins the national title.
