Winter Olympics

I don't understand how ice dancing is a sport. If not for the hot looking women I would not even watch. I thought I might get a bonus last night as one of the female dancers had a wardrobe malfunction in the middle of her dance.

Said the same thing last night. I understand pair figure skating, but do not at all understand how ice dancing is in there... simply for the fact that it's very subjective. It feels like the perfect event to turn into a beauty contest filled with drama.

It is hard to believe that as recently as 2010 the USA dominated the Winter Olympics, finishing first with 37 medals, well ahead of Germany in second with 30 medals. So, the idea that the USA has always done poorly because there is more snow and more of a culture of winter sports in places like Norway and Canada doesn't seem plausible.

The men's curling team finally got a win. The captain made the clutch shot for a change and beat Canada in the 11th end (hate calling it that, just go with frame like bowling). Now they still have to win the next two to have a chance to move on.

The US has been awful at these Olympics. Vonn and Shiffrin choked. Nathan Chen choked. Men's Hockey is garbage.

I guess Twitter took the video down. I found it on YouTube.

What's funny about that is that chick was determined to make the Olympics for some reason so she entered a bunch of World Cup qualifiers, and you have to be in the top 30 in each to make the Olympics. She only entered events with 30 or fewer athletes. Pretty smart.

What's even funnier is that I still couldn't do what she did in that video without falling.

Thanks, Obama...

I’m convinced the popularity of ice dancing is directly related to when the camera zooms in after their preformance and the woman always appears to have just experienced a level 10 orgasm. Generally quite porn quality.

And USA Curling into the medal round!

Will face Canada early Thursday morning US time

There's no other way around it.. but Lindsay Vonn has more or less been a disappointment for us in the Olympics. 2018, 2014, 2010, 2006, 2002... 3 medals over 5 Olympics. I get that a lot of this was injuries, can't fault her there.. But for as good as she is in the world games, when it comes to the Olympics something always seems to derail her.

And the U.S. fails again. No medal round for the men's hockey team.

Suckage... The Czech goalie stopped all 5 USA shots in the OT shootout. We would have played Russia (OAR) in the semis. It'll be Czech vs. OAR and Canada vs. Germany in the medal round.

Women's Hockey Final: Tonight, 11:10 pm USA vs. Canada
Men's Hockey Final: Saturday, 11:10 pm. TBD

I'll be glad when the Olympics are back in the Western Hemisphere. Hard to keep up with as much as I would like when there is a 14 hour difference. It's going to be 10 years before it happens again. It's been 16 years since the last Winter Olympics were here and 22 years since the Summer Olympics. Seems crazy since we probably have as good of an infrastructure already in place for at least the Summer Olympics as anyone does. The Winter Olympics would be more challenging though. Probably only a couple locations here or it would have to be in Canada.

^Speaking of infrastructure, I can't figure out why so many of these host countries don't plan ahead and already have re-purpose plans for what is built? They were showing that in Korea the flat surface at the bottom of the ski jump is a soccer field complete with bleachers. The facility basically gets used year rd.

It sounds like it is getting harder to find cities willing to host the winter games:
Wanted: A City to Host the 2026 Winter Olympics

FUTURE OLYMPIC HOST CITIES
2020 (Summer): Tokyo, Japan
2022 (Winter): Beijing, China
2024 (Summer): Paris, France
2026 (Winter): TBD
2028 (Summer): Los Angeles, United States

^The World Cup in Soccer has been discussing having shared sites......like a North American World Cup. I think Canada/US could pull off games decently. Share the costs and not much build in new infrastructure.

Our alpine skiing teams and speed skating teams need serious work. Especially on the male side. I love the winter Olympics but the struggle is real. Is it bad luck or not?

Great day for the U.S. The cross country girls may have provided the best highlight of our Olympics. We continue to kick ass in x games stuff. Good to see our female speed skaters end their medal drought. Great start for vonn and ms. Honestly though I'm looking forward to the women's hockey game more than anything this Olympics. That rivalry with Canada is fierce. I think we get it done this time though.

The guy in the post just before you said the U.S. is really struggling and needs serious work. Wait, that was you.

It has been a great day day but overall we haven't preformed up to par. We do need work in several areas to keep up with Norway though. I just love this stuff

Impressive showing in that skiing half pipe taking gold and silver. Hopefully the women can win the gold in hockey tonight. I hate hockey so I don't know if I will stay up long enough to watch this game finish. I'm curious
how many more events are left that we have a good shot to medal in?

I don't know how people enjoy watching hockey. Hockey and soccer are both a bunch of playing keep away with the occasional attempted shot on goal. At least there is legal contact in hockey. About 7 minutes in and the U.S. has no real shots on goal while Canada has had 2. Canada looks much more skilled. This feels like I am watching a Virginia Cavaliers basketball game. It would be better if they cut the players on the ice down to 3 or 4 per team (not counting the goalies). Also offsides sucks.
