Is this true? Was today the first time we played with this basketball? I assume they will use it in the SEC season. If not, somebody should answer to why not. If this is the ball for the NCAA Tournament (which I believe they used last year), why are we not using it.

They have to mean in a game. If it’s true and we don’t have a rack of each potential ball being used in games at every practice I don’t know what to say. Old timers me included will always say it ain’t the ball.

What happened to the regular old Wilson NCAA balls? Those were bona fide the absolute best feeling ball and look nice.
2nd is the Nike Elite balls. Why change something that’s not broken.

But if you watch our offense we have a lot worse issues than a basketball being different.

Because this sport is so ass backwards sometimes. Why would there even be a "2nd" ball that can be used?

There should be one ball.. not several different makes and models because the NCAA tried to sign multiple companies. The NCAA would have varying hoop heights each game if it could make them a profit.

So cal doesn’t use a ball used in the ncaaT at practice and want to call foul? It’s a joke at this point. Both teams used the same ball and knew before the game. The next excuse will be well sharpe was supposed to play this year

I'm not making excuses. I hate Cal and want him gone. My point is, if we are using this in the NCAA Tournament, why aren't we using this in the regular season? It seems like another Cal failure overall (not just yesterday).

Yep…this isn’t football where each team only plays with their ball so it’s not as big of a deal for Nike schools to have a Nike ball and adidas vice versa.

The Basketball should be Wilson (or non major shoe company) NCAA approved and universal

I’m reviving this thread because I have started looking for a new basketball for my retirement workout. Never realized we were using a different ball regular season (Nike elite) than what is used in the NCAA tournament (Wilson)
This has nothing to do with our defensive challenges but could definitely affect post season shooting.
Is th Nike money worth it?

I believe ksr did a video on it. Most teams that don't use the ncaa tournament basketball struggle shooting because of it in the tournament.

This is another one of those "blame Cal" issues that's really something larger.

Do we know if this sort of thing is sanctioned and out of his control? Is Duke using the same ball from summer practice all the way to their last game in the tournament? I'd like to know if other schools have done similar before I think this is one of Cals stubborn stances he takes. OK, so he uses the same ball as the NCAAT now.. but what if other teams in the SEC don't? What happens when we play at their arena? Are we hot swapping balls every other weekend?

This is still an NCAA problem first and foremost. Use one damn ball lol.

It’s all Wilson from SEC Tournament onwards. Depends on if we play at an Adidas, Nike, or Under Armour school. We’d play with a Nike ball at Tennessee, an Adidas ball at Mississippi State, and a Wilson ball at Auburn. For example.

So I guess my point then.. is that this isn't a Cal issue.. it's an organization issue. We should never be playing with different balls. And this is also a great detriment to young inexperienced players who are also trying to get used to the college game in general. I trust a 23 year old 5th year player to be able to handle multiple balls (lol), more than a just-turned-18 year old.

Bro the old Wilson ball is by far the best. It's what we used in high school. Some away teams used Molten "sp?" and I absolutely hated them. Russell County, Garrad county, North Laurel and a few others had them. It felt like shooting a ball with helium in it. Thank God district and regionals used the old school Wilson. I remember Coach breaking down my misses and makes. 55% from 3 when guarded, 35 % from 3 wide open. It was ass backwards from normal "shooters". Still pissed I made all state in football but not basketball.

Seems really strange to me that the ball they use isn’t standardized throughout ncaa men’s basketball regular season play. I woul think tha would put you at a disadvantage at away games where they use a different ball than you. Ball weight, touch, and channel size can vary quit a bit between brands.
