It looked like Willis had a pair of low cuts. Any specialists out there know if high tops with ankle braces help prevent severe ankle rolls?

High tops aren't going to stop ankle rolls. My evidence? Experience, both personal and watching it.

Yeah, shoes definitely do NOT prevent sprains, but it does amaze me that guys roll their ankles terribly like Willis did b/c I thought most guys had major tape jobs on the ankles.

In highschool, all players wore ankle braces.. surprised that high level college athletes dont

The trainer out of dematha high school in Maryland. I can't think of his name right now said to wear low tops because it gives the ankle more freedom. He doesn't let his players wear braces or get the ankles taped because it restricts movement. I always wore high tops when I played but saw this on tv when he was talking. I want to say his name is Allen stein but could be wrong.

Heard this theory, as well. Some believe restricting the freedom of motion of the ankle moves that stress to the next joints: the knees. This is some folks explanation for what seems to be an influx of knee injuries in major sports.

Then again, there's a theory for about anything that can cause anything.

greatest shoe ever made for hoops. low tops with the flexi mesh going up the ankle to support it but also leave the flexibility and light weight of a low top. Can't imagine ever going back to something else.

Low tops take pressure off the knees. Easier to rehab an ankle sprain than a blown out knee.

Willis can get by with taping the ankle for the rest of the season but I don't see how that injury won't need to be surgically repaired after the season. I've had surgery on both ankles for torn ligaments. I'm sure they can do it now just by scoping it but his ankle doesn't look good.

They do have those plastic immobilizers that go under the heel and up both sides of the ankle up to the bottom of the calf muscle. Do the tape job over that and put the socks on over it. He could play but that's not going to help Willis' defense though.
