Why do we just run the ball up the middle for most of our offensive plays?

I don't have the official stats, but it seems like we just run the ball up the middle into a pile of bodies for many of our plays on offense. When we do pass, it's a feeble attempt at a screen that usually ends up being "double-covered" by the opposing team.

Our OC was picking plays out of a hat as far as I could tell. TBF, our best running plays were generally straight handoffs between the tackles. We were pretty bad when trying to get to the edge this year. I have no problem with throwing screens but it seemed like they only were called in the most obvious situations. How many plays this season did you feel like our offense caught the defense off guard? I'd bet less than 10 the entire season. We were so predictable and some plays called were just mind boggling how bad they were (QB draws on 3rd and double digits, jet sweeps ad infinitum when 10% actually gained some decent yardage, pretty much every short yardage situation with Brock under center, pretty much every play Wimsatt ran, etc.).

We have to stick with the guy though. The reason we are bad is because the last guy left for the NFL and this guy didn't have a chance to fully implement his offense. It doesn't matter that NIL has set an environment where a lot of your players are going to be new every year. How the heck do other teams over turn their rosters and somehow make it work?

Just trying to call what they could execute. Hopefully they have a productive spring and it starts to click for some of our younger oline. I’m afraid they are going to dip into the portal big time on the oline again at the expense of player development. Kind of hamstrung with Wolford. Can’t afford more turnover at that position but he is not the answer. Stoops would be well served to try and get an analyst with an oline background to supplement that group.

Did you see the first two plays of the game? If not for the fumble, those gained about 25 yards. Then that sets up play action as they try to stop the run. Yeah, it seems like it is a two-yard pile of dust but, if the Oline executes, it can be like the first couple of play.

The strength of our weak O line is run blocking. So running the ball really gives us the best chance to win. Kentucky would like to set up play action. But those plays take extra time and the putrid line can’t off that much protection. Hence the worst offense we’ve ever had.
