Who Would You Rather Play?

These tough mid majors early in the season that could potentially upset you or the cupcakes that let you work on extra things and get more players experience? I can see teams like Albany and NJIT helping with seeding purposes. Those are the types of teams Coach K has used to over inflate Duke's strength of schedule for years. With as young as our team is, they might be better suited with easy games with the big teams we have to play on our schedule.

I'd actually rather play more quality, experienced teams who aren't going to wilt playing in Rupp or against elite talent. The more games you have to adjust and work on overcoming good coaching and experience, the better.

It is true. Duke hired a guy to their staff years ago just to manipulate RPI. Basically, play a bunch of teams you can still beat, but who play tough schedules and will end up winning a lot of games.

You might play a pretty equal team, but because one of them plays a brutal OOC schedule, might go 21-11 with an RPI of 120. Another team might go 25-7 with an RPI of 250.

It was mentioned in the past how their easy games were against teams like 100-150 in the RPI while ours were like upper 200's into the 300's.

I like mostly decent teams with a few cream puffs for experimentation and confidence.

I prefer what we just played; tough enough not to be scared of UK - and give a good enough game, but not so great to destroy a young team's confidence. Sure, a loss could be had - but the reward is far greater, IMO

Would like to see us play a team with a little more size, but these 2 teams were probably better than what 80% of the top 25 played in their opening 2 games.

I think Cal has said he wanted to play teams that were expected to be 1st or 2nd in their conference, teams that had experience as winners, for pre conference games.

I would rather UK play those teams. Albany and NJIT are projected to finish in the top 3 of their conferences and it helps boost RPI. Those teams are dangerous but UK always ends up winning decisively.

You could tell that NJIT wasn't afraid of UK. I like those types of opponents. Mix in a cupcake or two along with the caliber of teams like Albany and NJIT, along with quality opponents like Duke and Kansas, and then you have an above average schedule.

Or you can go the Louisville route and play a bunch of nobodies in order to pad your win total.
