What is Edwards supposed to be good at?

Cal also said that Edwards doesn't live in the gym either. He just comes to practice and that's it. Guy is soft and has no work ethic or desire to get better. He's done.
Yet Cal starts him every game.

If there was any proof Cal lives and dies by forcing his projected lotto picks to play through shat, Edwards is one. At least DJ played out of his funk.

1. Cal has stated publicly that Edwards does not prepare for games like he should
2. Edwards looks soft, he clearly isn't spending a lot of time in the gym
3. He's out of place on defense
4. He doesn't box out
5. His shot has no touch
6. He has butterfingers and apparently no grip strength
7. He gets bumped out of position easily by guys smaller than he is

He's next to useless.
So Cal rewards him by continuing to start him and giving him 25-30 minutes a game?

I like Edwards and think he can become really good - he’s just soft. I’m hoping the switch flips in his mind and he gets tough and mean. PJ Washington seemed kind of lost his freshman year until the very end. Then he matured and became dominate. Hoping the same thing happens here… but before the end of the season.

So, the real question is; does Cal have the courage to take his min? Will Cal put this team winning (and give first aid to his own legacy) ahead of Edwards getting drafted? If their was ever a moment when Cal might deviate from putting an individual player first, it might be with this squad. Cal knows his time is running out, and he absolutely cares about his legacy slipping.

I hope you’re right. Should be but he’s made some really dumbass moves last few years so hard to have much faith but I agree with your logic on this for sure.

I don’t think it’s going to turn on. As I pointed out, Edwards will be 20 years-old in TWO weeks. He’s nearly half a year older than Thiero.

He's slow, and looks like Beeker when he's out there.

Fire Oops GIF
I think Beeker is more composed lol

But his stock, along with Wagner’s, is rapidly falling. Dilly (bad game for sure) and Reed are moving up the list.

That's right. But guys like Edwards come here knowing they're leaving after one year no matter what. To me that would be incentive enough to bust my ass while here. Don't know the kid so can't say why he's apparently not putting in the work. Probably overestimating his value due to all the hype. He could be in for surprise come draft night. But never fear, Cal will whatever he can to get him in the green room.

after 8 games, Edwards is tied with Dillingham in rebounds (35). Fewer than every one else who plays 15mpg or more.

Yesterday he shot more 3’s (missing them all) than Reeves and Dillingham combined. That’s bad for all 3 because the other 2 should have shot more.

He constantly fails to finish at the rim.

I hate to say it, but he is on his way to BJ Boston status. I correctly predicted Boston failing, but I thought Edwards would be really good (better than Knox was). Right now a good comp for him is FR or Soph Darius Miller. Can we at least get JR or SR Miller from him.

so the coach says the kid doesn't prepare for games and isn't as dedicated as he should be

but he still gets a lion's share of minutes in the game over a supposedly deep team?

the math doesn't add up
Put Reeves at the 3, send Edwards to the bench, and let him watch Thiero play like a grown ass man at the 4. He can spell Thiero from time to time, and be pushed to actually improve.

Never gonna happen though.

Hi misses a lot of shots around the rim (likely a strength issue). Had he made that lay-up on the long oop attempt from Reed yesterday in the second half when we were rallying, Rupp would have absolutely exploded. Instead he missed and we lost that momentum.

The scouting reports were out there. There were a lot of them I'm sure, the ones I saw were spot on from what he's put up so far.

Just look at Livingston ... no matter what, he is gone. Even as a second round pick, he got 4 years, $7.7 million (first two years guaranteed), more than most on this board will make in decades of hard work.

Then get rid of him. Or sit him. Ridiculous if Cal and staff count on this guy Jan- March. You don’t win w guys like Justin Edwards.

Damn was that who missed that?! I heard it but didn’t see the play. Of course it was fvcking Edwards. 😑

Lots of examples of how Cal plays his favorites to get their draft stock up. He’s willing to sacrifice UK wins in order to do so. He can’t leave soon enough for me.
