Wenyen Gabriel - Signed, Sealed, Delivered!

Gabriel, Jones, Wynyard, Humphries, Willis., Mathews.

6 good ones for the 3 front court spots...........

Getting someone else to come in and fight for a spot
may be out of the question.

Just find or keep 3 elite guards to go with Dom.......and all is well.[banana]:cool2:

I've said it before, but I look at our guys from the perspective of who they will be playing against. Wenyen is no where near being the offensive player that Jayson Tatum is at the 3, but I think he (and Matthews) can come pretty damned close to shutting him down on the defensive end - and that's what really matters in the end.

now that is the kinda SF we have needed for a while . I laugh heartily at people who watch him play and then act like he will be anything but a SF for us .

Not to be a contrarian, but simply offering a counter view to a fellow fan...

Would you laugh if Cal landed Fox, Monk, and Simmons and placed them at the 1-2-3 spots, and put Gabriel at the 4? That would be a hell of a lineup, and if it happened, I think we would all do a lot of laughing; only, it would be at our opponents during the 2016-2017 season.

I get what you're saying, though, and I agree. It's nice having Gabriel's type of length knowing he can make the transition to the three spot if Cal decides to go big next season.

In this scenario wouldn't we rather have Alkins? He looks like a baby ron artest. Obviously Simmons is dying to come here and who knows what Alkins is thinking?

I'd prefer Alkins but I'm not sure how likely he is. Lots can change, and probably will, but he seems to be inching toward NC State a bit.

Simmons would be a great supplemental guy.

Thon Maker is the Jeb Bush of basketball. Lots of hype, but completely fades away whenever he is on the biggest stages. When he tries to bang, he looks awkward, just like Jeb when he tries to get tough in the middle of political debates. Then, he stands there awkwardly regretting that he ever took it inside in the first place.

Like Bush, he also likely has a few million from donors in his accounts.

Alkins is a great player, but in the few times I saw him, he seemed like kind of a ball hog. Can't see him in the same backcourt as Monk.

A lot of people projecting him to NC State, but I think Mullins will offer him the keys to the castle and he'll end up at St. John's.

If we miss on Monk, Cal may make him more of a priority, because we'll badly need a scorer next year.

Mulder will still be here as well. If we add Fox and Monk then we are right back in the hunt for a title again next year.

Sure, that's why I said FIND or Keep 3 elite guards.
I consider Mulder to be in that group next year.

Hope for Fox....Monk...??? if not maybe Simmons

We'll really need Mulder's outside shooting next year. Fox and Monk are okay from 3 - Monk more than Fox, but not as good as the guys we'll be losing - Ulis and Murray. I think Willis is going to be important next year for the same reason.

I can't stress how excited I am to get Gabriel. Wenyen is a really smart kid, with a family that stresses academics. He was a Duke fan growing up. This is the kind of kid we literally never beat Duke for - but we did.

Don't let anyone tell you that K didn't want this kid bad. He knows how good he's going to be. To me, this is great payback for Duke taking Kennard from us.

As long as we get Fox and Monk, we'll be top 2 teams next year.

Of course i would love to see UK pick up another special talent and see if we can be the top team, by a mile.

I don't think people appreciate how good this kid is. 6'10, ridiculous length, versatility, athleticism, coordination, and a motor that never stops. Seriously, he plays hard every single trip. Guys with those tools don't play as hard as he does very often.

He's one of the few guys who can actually fit in to Cal's fascination with size defensively. He's as big (or bigger) than Lyles was, but can actually guard the wing. The notion of Lee back alongside SKJ and Gabriel is glorious. Especially with two of the most athletic and dynamic guards in UK history in the backcourt.

Monk, Fox, Gabriel, SKJ, Lee, Matthews, Mulder, Willis--there will be other guys on the roster, but just look at that quickness, length, athleticism and versatility.

Would be the most athletic starting 5 at UK history, which is saying a hell of a lot.

Yep - I would put that team up against any team next year. Lee returning and Monk is the key - and if we miss out on Monk, Alkins. Long, athletic, high energy team - another fun team to watch.

Please Cal - coach until you're 70. If K can do it, you can too.

Cal has spoiled me when it comes to recruiting.

I don't keep up with recruiting near as much as I used too and was excited when I read this. I now "assume" he's good since he commited.

Gonna be a stud IMO. Versatile, athletic, and rangy. Next years could be close to Cal's dream line up. Bunch of bigs who can play like guards when needed

Great news. Much happy, so wow.
