We're coming out overly confident and lethargic. The opponent comes out playing like we did against Wichita State last year. We lost the eye of the tiger, we need to lose a game to wake these guys up.
Yeah, that's what we need...to lose.Originally posted by Louis_Skunt:

Sure, it reinforces the fact that playing like shit is OK because you can still win that way, which is not good.Originally posted by jackcarlson:
no, we don't. these types of games will accomplish the same objective, AND build confidence.
Just win baby!Originally posted by Louis_Skunt:

Losing will take care of itself unless we get back too forcing uptempo and hustling playing tough defense. Some teams it takes a loss or two and some learn quickly that they are playing lazy basketball.Originally posted by Louis_Skunt:

If this teams gets any more confident they wont even take the floor, just sign autographs. A loss will have these guys back to chaotic machines.Originally posted by jackcarlson:

Ole Miss shot well from 3 for sure, but they also killed us inside the arc. They shot 47% from 2, while we shot 35 percent from 2.Originally posted by Comebakatz3:
I think this was a much better game for us than the Ole Miss game. Ole Miss came out and they just shot lights out. They were intense and they basically played out of their asses. Watching them make circus shots when you're guarding them pretty well does not make a person feel bad. It makes you think it was crap. Especially since we were playing a pretty good game ourselves.
This game, on the other hand, TAMU just outhustled us. We played lazy and there were a lot of instances where a coach can point that out. They wanted it more and we never took it to them. This game should show our team that they have to get out there and outplay and outhustle these teams if they want to win. They squeaked out a win today, but I think this one can be more eye-opening than the Ole Miss game. We will see how they respond on Tuesday against Missouri.
That's very true, but a lot of their twos were contested shots as well. You also tend to give up the drive a lot more when you extend your defense. So, I think it is much more understandable against Ole Miss. Today, there was no excuse for giving up the layups and giving them 20 of their first 28 points in the paint. I personally don't think there was anything too terribly wrong with how we played against Ole Miss... Ole Miss just rose to the occasion and played a hell of a game. Today it had everything to do with our own team not being in it mentally. I think that is something we can learn from a lot more than just having Ole Miss play a lot better than they normally do.Originally posted by ukdesi:

Something similar was occurring in this game (discrepancy in 2s). Gotta get this trend reversed. Teams are packing it in and begging us to shoot from 3, and also they are driving and scoring more inside the paint.
Agreed. And then if they lose a game, the sky will be falling because they lost.Originally posted by JerseyCat84:

OK, but some of that was still on us (in the Ole Miss game). We shot 35% percent from inside the arc for a variety of reasons, some of it self-inflicted like turnovers by our bigs or just poor finishing in general. In addition, they had a strategy that pulled out our bigs from the paint and also where our bigs had to come from the other side of the basket to play help defense.Originally posted by Comebakatz3:

If 3 OT's in a week doesn't wake them up....I doubt a loss will.Originally posted by Louis_Skunt:

This...^^^^. UK is everyone's Super Bowl and yet, this team has the persona of being "unbeatable" when they hit the court, it seems. I would like to see some set plays run, increased energy on defense and kids hustling on every play, much like the beginning of the season. These close wins will be great for experience going deeper into the SEC and into the NCAA. Cal needs to keep them hungry and focused because of the long season ahead....he's getting paid the big bucks to do it.Originally posted by etowncatfan:
I disagree. David will always come out fighting harder than Goliath!! Teams are packing it in tight. Our bigs have no operating room. It is only in the second half when the other team tires that our bigs get the room. We just need to keep it close at the half. We will be ok.
A win is still a pat on the back. A loss is shameful and makes you angry....something they need.Originally posted by barryn2000:

If we don't hurry up and lose a game, we could lose a game.
I disagree but just out of curiosity, which game do you plan on rooting against the Cats?Originally posted by Louis_Skunt:
