First, really an entertaining game between them and the Packers.

Second, Dan Campbell is a gunslinger but gave the Packers a TD by going for 4th down on his own 30-yard line. That's not smart. Like the guts, but he needs to also play the percentages at times. Also went for 4th down late well within game-winning FG range (they picked it up). If they get stopped, Lions would have fumbled a chance to kick a go-ahead FG with << 2 minutes on the clock and GB out of TOs. Really not a smart move that could have backfired spectacularly.

Third, Goff is hitting > 70% of his throws this season. If you watch, they throw short into the flat and a LOT between the hash marks in the 8-15 yard range - A LOT. And us a ton of PA from under center. Why we don't follow the NFL lead and do this also is beyond my comprehension. We throw outside the hash marks often, rarely into the flat and throw a lot more long passes than the Lions do. But, hey, our OC is obviously smarter than the OC for the Lions who are 12-1 in the NFL, right?

We have to fix the scheme, recruit players that fit the 'fixed' scheme and then do our best to execute. Asking college players to do things that NFL OCs don't ask of their players is madness.

3 things:

A. Detroit's D is vulnerable because of 15 guys out;
B. The Lions schedule is tough down the stretch: v Bills, at 49ers, at Bears, v Vikings.
C. Campbell will pay v teams like Buffalo and Minnesota for his boneheaded 4th down decisions.

This is CMS "scheme". He wants to run the ball and then take his "shots" on downfield passing plays to the sidelines.

This is a risk averse, low success passing game because if you throw a 35 yard pass on third down, and it gets intercepted, then the field position results are the same as a 35 yard punt ( another CMS specialty) on 4th down.

CMS is allergic to passes over the middle unless he is down 3 touchdowns in the last 4 minutes of the 4th quarter, and even then he doesn't like them.

This is a defensive coaches philosophy on running a "safe" offense that doesn't put his defense in bad field position with an interception.

I have heard CMS say over and over that only bad things happen when you throw to the middle of the field.

Changing OC's every year or two and NONE OF THEM throw the ball over the middle of the field???? Hmmmm!

Yeah. We need the OC to change HIS scheme. Lol.

Easy to type, extremely difficult to do. Maybe if we joined the AAC.
Using the middle of the field is difficult? Georgia does it very effectively. Hell, Vandy did against us very effectively (and the flats). A lot of college teams use the middle of the field >>> UK does. If Stoops is not willing to change his mindset re: the passing game, then we're cooked and will continue to be cooked. Run, run, throw long is not working, especially with the falloff of our OL performance. We see a lot of 3rd and long situations and we throw 25 yards down the field (or attempt to when we're not being sacked or throwing it away due to pressure) when a 10-yard completion is a first down. I don't understand that philosophy. Maybe it's a risk averse passing scheme but, sadly, it's also evidently a score-averse passing scheme.

Yes, I think it’s extremely difficult to execute that in this league. There’s just so much speed. And I think we are unlikely to have an OL that allows us to throw a lot because SEC level pass blocking OL are such a rare commodity. Then you have to have a QB who can do it.

Every team in the SEC, including Vandy utilizes their TE in the pass game and throw slants and crossing patterns over the middle. They actually utilize those crossing patterns to get their receivers open over the middle.

There is absolutely NO legitimate excuse that prevents UK from passing the ball short in the middle of the field.

Strictly coaching scheme will not allow for it.

Ben Johnson is probably the most dynamic creative offensive mind in today's football. Thats why theyre able to do those things. I cant believe they got him to come back.

What about Kevin O’Connell who has Sam Darnold playing like Joe Namath?

Very good but Johnson is better. Goff was done before Johnson got him. Noone has the creativity i see from Johnson. I would say its like watching someone play a video game, but that doesn't nearly do it justice.

Jared Goff owes him about half his salary. He was on his way out of the league or being relegated to backup status and, suddenly, he looks awesome. High completion percentage, low Ints, very consistent output game after game. Coaching DOES matter, especially in the NFL.

Let's not gloss over the fact that Goff took the Rams to the SB in 2019. He had a few really good statistical seasons with the Rams. But yeah, I want an offense that mirrors the pro game. We've been so predictable in that department that it's borderline criminal and makes us a laughing stock of not just the SEC but college football as a whole.

I would argue it matters more in the nfl. College has huge talent gaps. Nfl doesn't.

The Minnesota Vikings are turning into one of the greatest sports stories of all time.

A team predicted to win 6 games this season is already 10-2 and could very well be favored in their remaining five games of the season.

Sam Darnold has gone from washed up to a top 5 QB in the NFL.

If the Vikings somehow end up the 1 seed in the NFC they will go to the Super Bowl and probably win it.

2nd class to a Lions team that has never been to the SB?
Get real dude.
The Vikings are going to win it all and Im going to tap dance on your head (ala Fred Astaire) afterwards.
