UNC Pre-Game Presser (Bruiser)

Saw that. Potentially concerning but let's see what the end result is I suppose. If we end up scoring less due to slower tempo but defense/rebounding improves due to the bigs, could still end up a net positive.
One thing everyone can agree on is the defense has to get better for this team to be a real threat. Hopefully we can accomplish that without losing our offensive punch.

This is reason 1-100 why you never let this guy near the mic or still to be in the program. He needs to be a caddie for the HC and stay the hell out of the way of any duty that relates to what real coaches do. Bruiser was valuable in early to mid 1990's--since then he's valuable for the strip clubs and their buffets but basketball wise he serves 0 purpose.

Absolutely. I think we will get a boost on defense with the bigs playing now for sure. And on offense, let's just make sure we don't clog the lane even if we're playing a slower tempo. Let Tre continue to stretch the floor at the 4 spot. Bradshaw can play some out of the paint too. Keep the lane open for Wagner to drive, which is what he's good at. And still mix it up and go small ball some too.

Not a fan myself. Would love to swap him out for Kenny Payne next year. Just don't let Kenny near the microphone either.

I tend to forget he’s even on the staff, and when I see him all I can do is ask- why is he still around UK?

Cal knows the fanbase thinks Bruiser is dead weight. That’s why he trots him out there for the presser for a huge matchup against a top ten team and fellow blue blood that we really cannot afford to lose. I wouldn’t be surprised if he even instructed Bruiser to make such a comment. It’s just more passive aggressive bullshit from Cal.

Once Z is cleared look for our starting five to be as follows;

Thiero
Edwards
Bradshaw
Z
Ugonna

Rock fights, position less players and plow ball. Running the shot clock down to 5 secs by dribbling out top then scrambling to make something happen.
Get ready cause its coming.
Cal loves this ish.
Guards be damned; and I did it…..my way!!!

I get with Bradshaw and ugo you can’t play as fast, but just being honest this team is better playing fast and small. Bradshaw can help defensively but the small ball offensive lineups made this team a tough matchup for anybody

I don’t mind us posting up a big man every now and then. There will be games in which that will work effectively.

I don’t want us force feeding the post every trip. Big difference

There will be games when a solid halfcourt offense in critical, and you don't have a halfcourt offense with a big or two that can be a force around the rim.

But, like you said, you also can't force-feed the post every possession.

I'm holding off to see what this actually looks like when the final product is in place.

He is pretty good at chewing gum. Why he doesn't have an endorsement deal with Hubba Bubba is beyond me.

Players First. Calipari said it Day One. Their interests, Not the interest of fans, boosters, media, or school. Their health. Their future. Their value as professional players.

But 12 years of moaning. Like Jeremy Piven in Grosse Pointe Blank. 12 years! 12 ,,, years! Life is really short and there's no reboots. Do something else.

I want the running gun as well, but if you remember the Kansas game Dickinson at us alive and yes, we still should’ve won that game but I’m convinced when an additional big we would’ve won that game. I definitely prefer the new look Kentucky over going to the post but sometimes the games are gonna be a rock fight due to who you’re playing and what players they have.

We weren't going anywhere without big men anyways. Probably a round of 32 team with no rebounding or defense.

We need the big guys but still need to get our shooters enough 3 point shots and push the pace when we can.
Your not gonna get both with calipari you just aren’t. With the bigs the pace will be slowed drastically, and the 3s will go down to 15-20 attempts per game. We will get more long 2s now

Agreed. It's a balancing act on both sides of the ball. I'd say our first legit game with a true big was a good start (not counting the UNCW game where Bradshaw clearly wasn't up to speed yet). Holding a good scoring team in Penn to only 66 and walking away with a 15 point win is a good outcome. Let's see what happens in game 2 against UNC.

The failure of logic here is the assumption that Cal wants to do what's best for the team.

He's told us repeatedly that isn't his goal.

Yeah, I’ve liked the small ball line up but felt it was only going get us so far. You got to have a little variety as the season progresses along.

Now, if we get into sec play and we’re trying to constantly jam it down low; we got a problem.

Our calling card is/will be the guard play, got to let them rip still.

I am sure there was something much more productive for him to do with his time in terms of preparing the team for the game. But that's no reason for you to break your streak of 5,000-plus consecutive negative posts.
I guess you missed the one the other day where I gave him credit for bringing in players who seem to be good people.

Long 2's are another issue entirely and have nothing to do with pace or how often we post the ball.

We need a post game. You can't win a title without a way to score in the paint with a big. The 3's and Layups won't be there all of the time.

Not to mention, our defense has been awful without any rim protection.

We can integrate some post play and still maintain a solid pace and a modern offense (See UConn as a prime example).

If we completely revert back to playing Oscar-ball, then we do have a major issue.

I'm not jumping the gun on that just yet...

It’s nice to have a post game but shooting and being able to beat your man off the dribble are much more important. Villanova in 18 and Virginia 2019 doesn’t have consistent post threats, spellman could get a basket every now and then but he wasn’t a dominate post player. Baylor didn’t have a dominant post threat, they had 3 guards on the perimeter who were interchangeable and could completely dominate games. UConn last year had a post threat among many other things. I get your point though, but if this team is going to do anything it will because of the guards

Virginia 2019 had Diakite. Dude saved their season against Purdue that year. He was a long, lanky, athletic big kind of like our bigs. Key is not to play through our bigs, play through our guards like you said. But, have the bigs available when needed for offense but mainly focus on rebounds/rim protection.

Cal got him a HC interview this past offseason and that alone is amazing and about a loyal as it gets in terms of friendship and appreciation for the job you once DID. Problem is.....what's he doing now? He's a complete non factor in recruiting and it's been that way for over a decade. He's a friend/ear for Cal to vent to and that is valuable for any coach, but so are O and Martin. Welch knows more basketball than rest of this staff combined and he's thinking at a level basketball wise many wouldn't even think of--which isn't a shot as much as a compliment to Welch.
