Not linking the video. Ugh. Janae Thompson dislocates ankle. Coach Mitchell loses his ish

Yeah, hope she recovers fast, maybe better than a broken one, maybe not, knew it was serious.

Very disappointing second half after a good first half, up to a 7 point lead, and led by three at halftime. Not one to criticize the officials too much, but really think they did a poor job today. The DOUBLE technical on Mitchell resulted in four for four at the free throw line, not sure what that was all about, sure didn't waste any time on the second one, didn't understand that at all.

Interesting that there were 17,000 fans there, guess that is what being #1 will do for you.

Should be a good game at Rupp.

Prayers to Janae. Very sorry to hear. I wish her a speedy recovery in healing and hopefully she is back on the court very soon.

I hope that's all it is...but her foot was sideways after she got rolled over by the USC player...I was thinking she broke her leg.

Praying it's less severe than it looked and for a speedy recovery.

Just sickening and I don't care to see the video so thanks for not linking. I had a badly sprained ankle that took close to nine months to heal. The pain was intense on a daily basis so I can't imagine something like this.

I saw it happen on TV and it was really nasty looking. Entire team was in tears and SC players were looking pretty bad over it too. Entire crowd was very respectful when she was wheeled off. Hoping it's not the worst but it looked ugly when it happened and she was in great pain. Prayers to the young girl and hope she is going to be OK.

A sprained ankle is what derailed my career. Ankle was never the same again.
When I ever sprained an ankle I sprained it. It would get very puffed up that a shoe wouldn't fit on. When I did it that one time driving baseline It swelled up and looked like I had a half a softball under my skin within minutes. I couldn't walk at all for a few weeks and couldn't do any activity for a looonngggg time. Around a year or so and it was just so weak it would just roll over instantly. Just walking around it would roll over. Horrible.

Had a friend on my college basketball team do this during practice. Took the ambulance 30 mins to get there while his ankle was at a 90 degree angle. Very gruesome looking injury, but he did recover just fine from it. Prayers go out!

As others have said, a severely sprained or dislocated ankle is one of the most painfu injuries you can imagine. I was the king of severely sprained ankles, and they've never been the same. To this day, I can't even stand to watch someone even roll his/her ankle...I have to look away. The memory of the intense pain is just too much.

Thanks to the OP for not linking the video or any images, and my sympathies and best wishes for a speedy and pain-managed recovery to Ms. Thompson!

Me too but when they wheeled her off the foot appeared to be aligned properly with her leg in the immobilization device. They had to have reset it on the floor.

Any time an ankle is dislocated, there is a real and severe risk of a fibula fracture as well. The force required to dislocate an ankle is also great enough to fracture bones, and that force typically travels upwards. How do I know this? I had a an almost identical dislocation and we later discovered a spiral fracture in my fibula; I've been told that these two frequently occur together.

That said, I hope it didn't happen to her!

Sounds really heartbreaking, and something I wouldn't want to watch if there was a video out there (I won't be searching for it).

All my prayers and best wishes to her, her family, and the team, and a quick, complete recovery.

I also had a teammate that did this to his foot and his foot was completely turn around backwards. I would not let him see his foot the whole time we waited for ambulance. It was scary to look at his injury. Same as above it healed great and he overcame it.

This is so heartbreaking. She was the SEC Player of the Week last week, and she was having a stellar year.

I've always been curious, how do they set it on the court? I've only broken my fingers and an arm, but it was never set until I got to the hospital and had some decent meds. Do they give them meds right there on the spot then set it? Always been curious how that works ...

I have no idea if that is in fact what they did, I was speculating in my earlier post. I just don't see how it could have changed position without manipulating it. Because it was not pretty, I feel so bad for that young lady.
