That has to be in large part due to the practice they get guarding the three everyday in practice. If hands aren’t up in practice, the ball goes thru the net.
I think part of that stems from the fact that we take so many that we force the other team to try to keep up.
Luck mostly. It's not like they are guarding the hell out of the three-point line. Teams get open shots from the perimeter but we've been lucky and they don't go in.....for now.

I mean I feel like teams get three balls up in the air on us but they just don't go in.

You don’t have to apologize for it. My perspective doesn’t have to be the same as yours. There is no such thing as a defense that doesn’t give up any open looks. Some of the open looks we give up are based on scout. Others are missed due to fatigue — we get into people’s legs.
We also close out on shooters VERY WELL- controlled but effective.

I sorta agree here. I don’t see our guys in the faces of the 3 point shooters. A lot of open looks every game.
I do like our defense as a whole but 3 pt defense does seem like a bit of a lucky/unlucky stat.
It's not a surprise to me. We have intelligent players who bust it on both ends of the court. Like Patters above said, we close out on shooters very well.
for me, it stands to reason that if one of your philosophies is about the math of making 3 point shots giving you an advantage to score more points in a game, then the same can be said that you would try and limit the same thing on the other side of the ball, right ???

Posted numerous times that, although offense steals the show, our defense is really the difference from last season.
We now have actual team defense concepts. Last year it was 5 separate guys trying to play solo defense. Thats why cal will keep getting lit up by any good shooter, at least till he gets robic back.

Was noticing that lately. It seems as if even though a UK player is not close enough to the shooter, they still make an attempt. Under Cal, we did not do that. It is as if he taught them it was wasted energy.
I think Pope studies game film with such intent that his defense allows certain opposing players to get open attempts while we guard their best shooters closely. He covers all details.
