Tyler Herro commits to UK

We need Zion as the Alpha among that group. Outside shooting with Quickley and Herro would be very refreshing. Quade, Shai, and Baker added to that group and we are talking best and deepest backcourt in college. Zion is simply unguardable one on one. Big hole in the middle though without Bol Bol. Richards prolly gone and Killeya I'm not sold on to hold down the paint defensively. Johnson is a rising player with serious slashing ability. (On the court that is.)

I would watch out for the recruitments of Barrett, Grimes and Armando Bacot from 2019 to 2018 in the near future..

Agreed.

Starters

G Green
G Quickley
G Johnson
F Williamson
F Killeya-Jones

Key Reserves

G Gilgeous-Alexander
G Baker
G Herro
F Wynyard

We will need SKJ and Wynyard to really step up defensively inside if that is the case.

Really hope that all this Bol to Oregon talk is just that. Bol is the perfect 5 to go with Williamson at the 4. We need him, especially on the defensive end.

Herro reminds me of a more athletic Mateen Cleaves. Kid gets to his spot. Doesn't play hurried and plays the angles well. Always keeps his eyes up. Not overly explosive but changes speed at high level. He would make a nice addition to the Cats. Not to be racist or anything but don't all our recent Championship teams have a white guy?

Maybe it's just me but I think throwing in the towel on a freshman after seeing him play in two exhibition games might be a little premature.
Right. He's a really good player and I hope he's a Cat. I'm just saying he's not going to take people off the dribble and get to the rim. I was making the point that we aren't characterizing his game based on skin color, we're discussing what we actually see.

He's a good player and a good scorer, but it doesn't mean he can play that particular way and be effective. It's not his game any more than John Wall taking spot-up 3 pointers from the corner is his game.

But I think the other posters only point was that hes not JUST a spot up shooter. And he’s not. He’s more than just a spot up shooter.

I believe all UK teams have had white guys win championships.

Kentucky write up after winning the 2018 title - “ Kentucky wins and sends wrong message about Diversity (1 white guy).

Duke writeup after winning title - “fascinating young men reach another milestone” ( 4 white guys).

I’ve always found it odd that in the day and age of bitching about diversity and “white subconscious racism”, coach k can walk into a gym of 100 players and walk out with 3/4 whiter than cream cheese and yet nothing is said about it. Even when there were only 3 white guys in the gym to begin wth.

And it’s not about academics, Duke has lower admission standards than UK today.

Don't all of our recent NIT teams have white guys on them too? Really makes you wonder what Cal's going for here.

Any prediction of SKJ starting is questionable. The kid simply hasn't shown the skill to get minutes, nevertheless a starting role

Nah, I don't think Cleaves is the comp for Herro. Cleaves was way more of a floor general and pass-first PG. He more or less couldn't throw it in the ocean from distance. Herro is a bucket getter. I think Quade is closer to the mold of Cleaves (and maybe Taurean Green).

The staff was not interested in Herro for a time, and you can chalk that up to ignorance or whatever you want. Apparently some back channeling went on to say 'hey, this kid is really interested in UK, take a look' and they did, saw that he can play, and they're interested now.

This stuff changes literally by the day and you shouldn't shit on anybody passing along what they hear. The same people over and over like to do that and I kinda don't understand that reaction.

Cleaves? What?

Yeah after watching that video, this guy is more than a spot-up shooter. He's clearly seeking contact when going to the hole - simple spot-up shooters don't do that.

It’s kinda funny to me that so many initially compared him to Booker lol... wonder why that is?
;)

I hope he suits up for us. He’s the type player that can light your ass up on any given night.

I'm right there with you! Shooter with a scorers mentality. Not limited to spot up, creates shot by moving both with step back jumpers and side to side maneuvers just to create enough space to get off a jumper with perfect form. It doesn't take him long to lock and load either. He demonstrates a quick release with a 6'5 frame and with an extended elbow, with the proverbial hand in the cookie jar finish. He releases the ball at the perfect spot with a balanced finish even when pulling up. Goes straight up and comes straight down. I doubt he had this kind of excellent form on his own. He has probably been taught perfect technique at a young age. I did this with my son who ended up being a great three point shooter and a D1 player. These guys are specialists. Like snipers if you will. They are monumentally Important to a teams offensive prowess and especially so in the college game. I'm going to love this guy. Plus I'm glad we could be stealing him from Wisconsin. We owe them plenty! Sorry for long post. I'm excited! Lol

I hope we get Herro. If he ended up at Wisky- he woulda tore up the Big 10, and woulda been a guy we wish we had.

6'5, damn athletic, and an elite shooter- he'll contribute every year that he's here....

Guy doesn't look like a UK guy to me. Happy to have him if he comes, but he just has that Iowa/Wisconsin midwest look to him.
But he backed off Wisconsin and none on his list are Big 10. There's Butler, but all the others are outside midwest. Kansas in the midwest? Nah, it's between no man's land and an out of body experience.

Haven't watched any of his videos but think it's significant that Wisky offered. I think we can all think back over the last 5 years or so and remember a number of guys who played there who weren't all-world athletically but could shoot and were just ballers. Surely hope he picks UK.

And I agree with the sentiments of some who think the model should be a number of solid multi-year players with 2/3 top studs. Our '12 title team was more along this model even if it occurred because of the NBA lockout.

He could probably help us with Jalen Johnson who visited at big blue madness for 2020 class
