It hurts. He was tough. But the biggest impact is chemistry. At least for now. It will probably get better. But when he was playing there really was two platoons and players developed chemistry. There was better passing etc. I think losing Poy hurt the chemistry. It did not show up against UNC and UL because we were up and just playing. But I think it is going to take time to relearn.

He would help on some of these rebounds we're losing, but I don't buy that this is because of him. What you said at the end is where I really disagree. I just can't watch us roll over UNC and UCLA, and lead for all but 24 seconds at UL, and then say "welp, NOW it's hitting us".

I agree

It hurts most because offensive players don't have to worry about him blocking their shot. It's effected KAT and WCS in the fact these players know where they are when Poythress would come out of nowhere and embarrass you. I honestly think it's a bigger loss than we realize.

we're still tall as heck, but we really dominated having lyles and poythress at the three together. that meant for an entire game you had to keep them off the glass. cal talked about this early in the year. we'll miss that aspect and his defensive toughnes, and finishing. we're still an awesome team though and i feel no shame in saying with a little experience we're easily the best team out there. defense wins and our overall defense won the game on a horrific shooting day. our overall free throw shooting beat theirs. you look at the box score and that's the game.

folks here were freaking out we didnt beat buffalo and columbia by more and we had then platoons at that time too.

maybe fans arent as smart as they think they are and need to get off what they believe they are entitled too.

just watch the games and cheer for the team.

Who's freaking out? It's game 15. I sure as hell am not freaking out. It's the 10th of January for crying out loud.

Go back and look at the substitution patterns. The three games since Poythress got hurt (UNC, UCLA, Louisville) Cal tried to platoon as best he could (given the issue of having to have someone from the blue squad fill in part of the time on the white squad) for much of the game.

The margins were generally good when he did this, but became progressively worse further in the game as the lineups became more and more jumbled.

These last two games he's jumbled the lineups very early in the first half, and the result hasn't been pretty. Both offensively and defensively the team looks off, and is not as efficient as they used to be.

Losing a talented 6'9" 240 pound Junior hurts. IMO the worst part of losing him is the fact that he and Cauley-Stein were very close and played well together. I agree that losing him has somewhat hurt team chemistry.
