Thoughts on the increased Mic'ed Ins with Cal?

Good concept.. But they seem to only pick the ones where Cal is laying into the team or generally pissed. How about more strategy or white-board talk? Or when he's praising a good play?

I think the only time I saw him happy was when he yelled "YEAAAAHHHHHH!! WILLLLAAAYYYY!!"(enthralled fist pump) a few games back. Which was great, by the way. Lol.

I'm sure that's not the only time he's complimentary or enthusiastic with the team. Let's see more of those!

And yes, this wasn't the best game for great plays... But I'm pretty sure it was a similar feel in one of the previous two wins against Bama and Mizz

I love it.

He's commanding effort and energy for 40 mins.

He did praise the players in multiple instances, in tonight's game (Andrew, Marcus, and a platoon for having great energy).

Anyone who has coached, knows that's how practices and games are communicated as a coach. (Not trying to be a smart arse, but that's what coaches do).

I think that's probably the result you're gonna get in close games like this. Probably pretty disproportionate amounts of yelling and praising.

I think we "Just need more energy".

Like every other sportscaster, they get one thing in their mind and just keep repeating it....

Maybe we should have just driven it to the nail or perhaps guard our yard.

The first time they did that this year it was the opposite. It was nothing but rah rah from Coach Cal. He was having fun with the guys and cheering them on. He definitely wasn't very happy with the guys tonight overall.

You must have heard a different one than me... I heard him blowing smoke and padding them on the buttt and saying good job

I like it because it counters the "Cal just rolls out the balls" meme that is perpetuated by fans of teams who get their lunch eaten in the recruiting battles.

I must have left the room for some. Seems like the last few games it was all clips of him getting on the team.. I'm glad they are showing both sides.

...don't forget the violent cuts!

I miss Jimmy D.

As for mixing the microphone with Cal's coaching... I don't think I want that gimmick to continue much longer.

You're assuming there is strategy or white-board talk to broadcast.

Think they do it because they think the game is gonna be a blow-out and they need fill time.

You think he actually goes .......... let me say this or that and move his arms and body this way and that way to make a show? That's simply how he coaches and communicates. Remember all of his teams are pretty young and are constantly in a learning state of mind or at least should be.

This. They probably have to be selective with what they show/broadcast from both Cal and players. It's just the nature of the game. I'm a man of faith, but when I coached, I found that swearing came just as natural as breathing. On the bright side, it caused me to throw in a little extra in the offering plate and gave me something to talk about at confession with my priest. LOL.

does anyone else ever wonder if cal's constant yelling from the sideline maybe distracts his players and has a negative effect sometimes? some games he just seems more animated and vocal than others.

Only our fan base could find a mouse-turd in a bouquet of flowers

Cal's getting face-time on national networks, showing potential players and parents how he coaches, without using profanity....and we want to carp over whether he's coaching them too hard or not

Jesus, decide what you want: a coach who coaches like a real coach does, or a coach who is too chicken-chit to show the rest of the nation what he is really like on the job

NO. By your comments, I am guessing you don't watch much college basketball.

Not the point at all. We've had a few blow out games where I am surprised that the majority of the Mic segments are him getting on the team. I'm sure in those games there are plenty of congratulatory takes, high fives, etc.. Would like to see more of those. Maybe I missed some of them recently, as I said.

As for the whiteboard, I've seen ESPN/CBS do similar "mic" segments where Brey and McCaffery were sitting down with the team huddled around them. Again, haven't seen much of that with Cal. And I'm sure it's there. Just want to see more of it, if they are also going to show Cal laying into the team 5 times a game...
