This Western KY team!!

Definitely hasn't been pleasant but should prepare us for teams like UT or auburn who do nothing but hack, grab ,and push.
This. It was a good prep game for the SEC teams that like to play the same muck it up chaos style. Killed the offensive flow bc you can’t get through sets due to fouls and results in a FT shooting comp separated by 10-20 possessions of actual play. So it shrinks the real game.

We played at about 60% efficiency and still won by 20. You won’t always be at 75+%efficiency so it’s good to see we can win against an 8-13 seed type team when playing the worst version of ourselves

Winning a game like this gives valuable learning experience for us as a team.

Almost every area of the game can be pointed out as needing improvement...

Yet we won by nearly 20.

I wouldn't say it's "comically bad" like some other coach would....

I rather give WKY tons of credit for hanging very tough. All credit to those kids playing so hard and not giving up, even though they were never going to win this game.

Great game to have - a win and lots of game film to go over!

That game should be banned from viewing it was so UGLY. Williams, not sure what he was doing a lot tonight. He had some very poor passes, poor all around play for most of the night. Very happy to see us win in a very ugly way. Good on WKU, their plan was to thug us thinking we would fold. Oweh, Butler, Kerr, Carr, Williams will not take to thug ball. Brea I thought played decent defense, got some strips on the ball and such.

Carr has stepped up when we needed a presence against physical play tonight and in the Duke game.

13 for western is gonna be a good player. Once his jumpshot gets more consistent and he starts taking good looks he will be a major problem

Who is this ref crew. Worst flow of any game all year. I especially like the offensive foul on Kerr spinning away from his defender.
Referees: Keith Kimble, Brian Dorsey, Hunter Allen

UK’s record with
Kimble: 10 wins, 10 losses (most notoriously our final game of 2017, the Elite 8 vs UNC) http://www.bigbluehistory.net/bb/statistics/Officials/Keith_Kimble.html
Dorsey: 3 wins, 6 losses (including the Double OT 2019 Elite 8 vs Auburn and 2024 NCAA matchup vs Oakland) http://www.bigbluehistory.net/bb/statistics/Officials/Brian_Dorsey.html
Allen: 2 wins, 0 losses

Quite a record for the first two, compared to the norm. http://www.bigbluehistory.net/bb/statistics/officials.html

  • Wow
Reactions: Lempface
Everytime one of their bigs took a shot they would fall to the ground and the refs fell for it everytime.
At one point, I just wanted us to actually give them a hard foul just to remind WKU what it's like to fall for a reason. Kinda like that duke kid who got his shoulder obliterated by Amari's screen.

Now, I'm not advocating for injury or malice – just our presence and physicality felt.

Catch - and POST - of the week right right here. I sure hope everyone here sees it! It explains pretty much everything needed to take away from this game.

Establishing a coaches challenge was a step in the right direction....

Can we get an " alternate selection" of officials available to choose from in advance of the game ?

Of course, they would stack any alternate list of officials (like above) with good ole' mainstays we have come to love.

Sorry, loathe, not love.

The way WKU came at us is the blueprint for how to at least keep it close with the Cats. This of course assumes we aren't hitting 3s at a "oh sh*t" pace like last night. Even then we still were able to get off a lot of 3s even with them in our grills and under our jerseys.

I expect all of the SEC, UL and Clemson to play exactly like this on defense. Muck it up and hope to slow down the game in an attempt to keep it close or make it a free throw competition. Last night was a good experience for this team moving ahead into the season.

Thanks @runt#69
Looking at the stat list, there are only a handful of active referees who have officiated more than 2 of our games where UK wins only 50% or less of the time. The lowest percentage comes from Dorsey, and Larry Spaulding (whose last UK game was in 2022), both at 33.3%. To pair Dorsey with Kimble (now 50%, after last night) is quite an interesting combination. Glad to have won by 19!
