The Ukraine war. (Yes, we'll mind our manners)

In other words, Putin now runs Time magazine.
That was a lazy response. I said no such thing and you know it. I want to know who made the claims? For that matter, after reading the article I didn't get quite the same perception as the writer.

Do you like depending on unknown sources for this type knowledge? Was it one source, 5, 10? Are they pro-Russian? Do they support Zelensky?

There are myriad unanswered questions in an article sourced in this manner. That is especially true when there is so much corruption in the government. Who can you trust?

You guys who are following this much closer than me. What’s the current state of the war? Is it time for peace talks? I don’t really find much real info on current activity. What’s a good source?

Reality has finally set in.

It’s just hard to understand why some couldn’t understand from the beginning why it was going to end this way. It’s not like the variables then were very different from the variables now.
End what way? What is reality? That Ukraine incrementally slowly takes back land as they are doing now? The Kherson bridgeheads across the Dnipro river may seem like immaterial or irrelevant to you all, opening up a new front where the invaders were caught off guard with a lack of elite troops like VDV could change things. Been saying this for weeks and they have gained ground.

We want Ukraine to win. Predict Ukraine’s victory. When should we expect it? Give us a timeline so we can assess whether this is truly going better. Because you are in the minority when it comes to how Ukraine is doing.

I was disappointed to hear Tim Scott last night say our objective is to degrade Russia’s war machine. Do I want to see Russia’s war machine degraded? Sure. Do I want hundreds of thousands of people to die so that can happen? Geez, NO! Ukrainians had to really love that comment.

If you don’t know the minute by minute stats, the geography by heart, all of the names of the armaments, the possible war maneuvers, the history of the decision-makers, you probably won’t understand that Ukraine is doing just fine. ;)

War is a hobby for some. Usually not the ones who have guns and missiles pointed at them.

Reality is that we’re broke, bcw. Reality is that Ukraine cannot recover all their territory. Hard to swallow I know. Sometimes the good guys don’t win.

You're such a genius.

The ground Ukraine gained since summer is sadly minimal.

This war has next to nothing to do with our "broke" status. Way bigger issues.

Geopolitics is a hobby for some - assuming people in this thread that follow daily front line updates are bloodthirsty spectators that get off on death is ridiculous - even for you. But you do you….

You like your personal wars to be against strawmen. Enjoy your fictional battles.

Ok, so let's say Russia "wins" and takes Donbas and some other small areas. What do you think will happen then?

It would help if he would define whatvtjos "end" looks like and what may come afterward that may or may not be be a new variable. Its just word salad until he adds some substance.
How do you think this will end? If it ends with Russia taking the Donbas, don’t you think that could have been negotiated months and many lives ago? If it ends with Ukraine collapsing, was it worth it?

I would take anything leading to a cease fire. Giving us time to hopefully have the US in a better position at the leadership level to deal with Putin. And Zelensky probably needs to go.

If you're scoring at home, we've given $75B to Ukraine and Putin is still going to take 20% of the country. Biden and Lady G suck.

Europe pays for the military buildup of Ukraine to prevent a future invasion. Otherwise Russia takes Ukraine in the future. That’s a European problem.

The question for you is why it matters at all. I know you know enough to know we’re paying a trillion dollars annually now on just the interest on the debt. We are headed for a financial disaster that is indescribable because nobody knows exactly what it will entail. And you’re asking about what happens next on the other side of the world?

When this war started I TOLD you about the dangers of unintended consequences, of prolonging instability, that there was no way Russia would be defeated. Since then, interest rates have climbed, the Middle East exploded, and Russia shows no signs of being ousted.

Wouldn’t it be great to not have Russia working with Iran in this moment?

If Russia is allowed to take the Donbas, they will slowly but surely take all of Ukraine. It cannot be allowed.

If Russia cannot take all of Ukraine now, upon what foundation do you make this statement?

It cannot be allowed.
Not sure what this means. Ukraine’s independence might require the U.S. to formally enter the war?

Most people predicted Ukraine would fall quickly. So, this did not seem to be the original idea for this war.

I understand China cannot be permitted to take Taiwan. But the Ukraine value to the U.S. is far less identifiable.

Putin says no cease fire unless Ukraine recognizes the areas he has "annexed", some of which Ukraine controls. And even then a ceasefire is only an intermediate stop based on Russia's past land grabs. So I don't see why anyone thinks there's a negotiated settlement possible.

Common sense. If they take Donbas they can fully control it and fill it with military. If you don't think that would make it easier to move west, especially since you want Ukraine support stopped, I dont know how to help you.

Pie in the sky plus not giving a damn what actually happens to Ukraine. Russia controlling that much of the world's food would be a disaster.

A huge issue with Ukraine is grain exports. Wouldn't it be fun for everyone for Russia to control the combined exports of Ukraine plus their own. Ah, what am I saying. They'd never hold the world hostage over food. I'm not in a hurry to allow them access to Ukraines titanium either. Then they have incredible natural gas reserves.

Ukraine is important on its own and even more important to keep away from Russia.

Actually, as a common sense acceptance of reality, I have said support for Ukraine will stop. Whether it stops before Ukraine runs out of human resources to fight a war or after, I do not predict.

Ukraine will fall without intervention. Hopefully, you won’t be able to sell the country on sending our troops to war.
