Texas high school player slams ref after ejection

Good for him. Stuff like this will happen until someone in the officiating world takes responsibility. The kid is in the wrong because actions like this are crazy, but there are some officials out there that do deserve getting slammed, or hit in the jaw.

no official needs to be assaulted. The kid needs to be dismissed from the team. Assault charges should be levied. That is not part of the game.

Jesus Christ you are so broken. No bad call on the planet warrants assault.

This happened in a game I was officiating at Knox Central years ago. A KC player was flagged for a personal foul and got into the face of the official who then ejected him. The KC player took his helmet off and hit the official in the face. As me and the head official was escorting him to the sideline, his father came onto the field and threatened us. We yelled for security and two deputies came on the field to make sure nothing else transpired. The head official called the game off as the opposing team's coach felt it was an unsafe environment.

When the player got to the sideline, his teammates were giving him high fives.

The player was charged with assault and suspended from school. The judge dismissed the charges after the player's family agreed to pay for the officials medical bills.

To this day, the official who was assaulted has a nasty scar on the side of his face.

I have never used the ignore function in all my years on this board, but I will use it for the first time on you because you are a disgusting POS!

Do you work at CNN ? Reading that made me feel like I looked at child porn🤮

No I absolutely hate CNN. The refs I played sports around were at least 50% pieces of shit and arrogant dickheads. I don’t condone officials being able to act superior to anyone. I’m tired of them being able to do whatever they want to do and suffer no consequences.

I never said what the kid did warranted 0 punishment. I’m just saying shit like this is bound to happen when most of the people out there officiating games are in officiating because their occupation has no consequences and they get to have power. What I said probably crossed the line because it is high school but have you paid attention to the ones in college and professional sports? Hell we’ve had officials fixing games in the NBA in the last 10 years, we got referees in college who blatantly call things against the team that isn’t “supposed to win.” I apologize for saying it about a high school situation cause that official is probably a good guy, but every single crew in the SEC can all get hit in the mouth for all I care, they suck the fun out of the game. One striped shirt can ruin 100,000 people’s enjoyment, a coach lose his job, or a kid to get in trouble and have no consequences, because it’s also not in the game to be an incompetent or corrupt Douchebag.

Remember when Benny Snell touched the official in the Music City Bowl? No one complained about that, they complained that Snell got ejected, and I definitely felt like that ref that night probably deserved a lot worse than Benny making contact with him. He was an arrogant prick Who belonged no where on that field

1. From that clip...how do you come to any conclusion the official made a bad call/decision?
2. Regardless of #1...the kid should be banned for 1 year to play football for any high school at minimum. You simply can't assault a referee no matter how bad a call.
3. As far as accountability for officials.....at least a collegiate level and professional level...they should easily answer media quetions after games. I am not sure high schools have the bandwidth for this (and the dudes reffing games literally make 100 bucks or so a game).....so I am not sure you can pay them enough to put up with the additional scrutiny.

The kid should absolutely be punished. And I shouldn’t have said it about a high school official, that was kinda Busch league. Basically what I was trying to say was I don’t condone it but I absolutely could see how it happens. We have to get officials that aren’t costing people games and being complete douchebags

Kid needs to be banned from the sport at all levels for life, charged as an adult and banned for life to attend any high school and below games in person.

KENTUCKY
Section 518.090 – Assault of sports official

(2) For the purposes of this section, “sports official” means an individual who serves as a referee, umpire, linesman, or in a similar capacity that may be known by another title, and who is duly registered as or is a member of a national, state, regional, or local organization engaged, in part, in providing education and training to sports officials. (3) A person who is guilty of assault of a sports official shall, for a first offense, be guilty of a Class A misdemeanor, unless the defendant assembles with five (5) or more persons for the purpose of assaulting a sports official, in which case it is a Class D felony. The idiot should never be allowed to play another game in any sport. I think there used to be a rule that said if you put your hands on a ref in any sport that's the last game you will ever participate in, not sure if it's still in place. I'm sure some rule like that is, but there is no excuse for that, the ref need to press charges, you can't let that happen. The kid needs to pay big time.

Man it was tough getting thru that news guy until the video began. His hair really annoyed the hell out of me. He could pass as a brother to Quin Snyder that played for Duke.

On a serious note, on the light side, dude should never play another down of high school football, and his ass needs to go to jail.

I saw the exact opposite of this at a MIDDLE SCHOOL football game in Anderson County . Kids father charges onto the field after a referee and gets body slammed by the ref . Other fathers helped the dude off the field . Police were never even called.

referees are not to be assaultedfor any reason.

behavior from players at any level is not to be tolerated.

Referees make mistakes like we all do. They are not on the field to be abused.

appropriate action against abusers is warranted at all levels of play

referees get graded and there are consequences. Referees can be fined, suspended or fired for inadequate performance.

Wow what has this world came to?
Get out of the conspiracy theories for a while and join the real world. I don't think the officiating world is sitting around and coming up with some scheme to beat the Cats. Do you have some games that has a bad call? Yep, most of them do, but hopefully they even out because human error is going to happen. I've called high school basketball and baseball and can honestly say that never at one time did we have a discussion to cheat a school. I'm not staying it doesn't happen, but it never once came up and a lot of times we would ride to games together. That's a one person case study, but I can assure you it never happened in a game I called. At least not a whole crew conspiracy..

Yeah nobody deserves any of this behavior and tv replay has made it worse over the years.. but I think opinions of people toward officials would improve dramatically if there was just a better accountability system for them. Not sure how practical that is at the high school level but transparency at all levels should be better. High school and youth behavior toward officials is mostly attributable to parent or authority figure behavior or permissibility.

But at higher levels...All you get right now, even in college, is some former official now in charge of an officials group issuing a bland statement supporting a ref on a questionable call causing outrage. Then they keep trotting the same guys out there. This is what can easily lead to the arrogance some can’t stand...because they feel they’re above any sort of correction or consequence because they are. They’re going to make mistakes...it’s the not admitting them even when obvious that I think keeps many from accepting calls during games

I agree, although I would not call for assault on officials below the college level. I know there are some high school lines on offshore books, but 99.9% of blatant cheating occurs at collegiate and professional level.

The only thing HS officials do is favor private and Catholic schools, which doesn’t warrant assault. But cheating officials - in the levels above for conference offices (SEC: Birmingham for example) and for sports wagering purposes - deserve broken bones.

Caretaker: Most of these old boys don't have nothing. Never had nothing to start with. But you, You had it all. Then you let your teammates down, got yourself caught with your hand in the cookie jar.
Paul Crewe: Oh I did, did I?
Caretaker: Oh I ain't saying you did or you didn't. All I'm saying is that you could have robbed banks, sold dope or stole your grandmother's pension checks and none of us would have minded. But shaving points off a football game, man that's un-American.

Yeah, never physically assault an official - just negatively review his business or threaten to poop down his chimney
