Since the Aggies are in town this weekend, I thought I’d go on their sight and check out their football team happenings. It seems to be a dumpster fire despite Jimbo hiring Petrino and others to right the ship. If their site is correct they have lost 24 players to the portal while only picking up 2. If this is so he’ll need to pick up something like 36 players either by recruits or portal in spring. Jimbo may be on last leg. Does anyone have any inside scoop. All these loses to portal is that by design ?

Quite a few have left, but I don't know where their numbers were after signing day. If they were in the 115-120 range they needed to lose 30-35 to get to the 85. But I don't know.

But I think it's a train wreck and with all the loyalty Petrino has shown over the years it could blow up this fall.

Yes they took quite a hit. Went to one of the sites that track the portal pretty well and on a quick count I counted 26 out and 4 in from portal. Couple other things that jumped out at me was they listed as lost 7-CB's, 5 WR's and 4 edge guys. About half that # had signed with other teams and weren't going down in class although sure some will. They were signing with OU, 2 to GA, LSU, USC, GaTech, 3 Ole Miss, NEB, MSU etc... That's got to hurt..........

And only one meeting overall!

Speaking of which...that game still hurts. A call here, a play there, and we take that in regulation.

2018 was still an epic season but could've been even better.
Great experience to go visit Texas A+M on game weekend. There was alot of blue there. Good fans.
Missing our Left tackle that game also...

Are we in on any of those guys still in the portal?

It sucks we play Bama like every 3 years but have only played TxAM once and they joined the SEC in 2010, I think. That is stupid.
Well, we don’t normally play Bama every three years, but that All-SEC schedule in 2020 threw a wrench into the regular rotations so it seems that way lately.

He's like Cal, but on steroids. Owe him like 90 million. Thing is that it will be like a drop in the bucket for them to raise though if needed.

Yes. Last away game I attended - completed my all-SEC stadiums' visits for UK games. Sat next to a guy who said he attends all/most UK away games & claimed it was the biggest UK turnout he'd ever seen. Maybe an exaggeration vs. some TN games, but there had to be 10K UK fans there. Even though the furthest venue, I suppose the uniqueness was a draw plus us being pretty good. Doubt I'll ever make Austin or Norman. We'll see.

DK, but I think with the new scheduling starting 24/25 each player that stays at least 4 years will play very team at least once.
Well if we don't play them at home by 2024, then we may not play them at home till 2028 assuming the 3-6/6 schedule pattern - more than 3 years from now.

Think Jimbo knows BP is there to take his job? Bet BP wants one more chance at P5 football before he retires and lacking character he'll undermine Jimbo at every turn.

That's my thinking on BP, but with Jimbo not being any better is it not his plan to get fired and his buyout? Around 80m to ride off into the sunset is pretty good for being a failure

It’s crazy that they have been in the league for 11 years and we still don’t play them at home for 3 more years.
I made a two week trip in my motorhome to College Station - became ill and spent a few extra days in college station, then spent a couple of days in Austin before visiting a couple of casino's and family in Oklahoma before returning home. If you haven't seen it the Cowboy Musuem in Tulsa is a great place to visit. Really great fans and people in Texas and Oklahoma IMO! Glad they are coming to the SEC - definitely SEC folks deep in the heart of Texas!

Go Big Blue!

Yes it is! I went down there when UofL played them back in the 90s. I encouraged everyone here to make that trip when the Cats played them. I've been to many big time football environments (tOSU, AL, Notre Dame, et.al.) and A&M is still the best I have attended.

Peace

If they can fix the offense Texas A&M would be really good. There’s still a ton a of talent on that roster

I was reading a T a&m site about this couple months ago. Sad thing is, they think the $90M could be gotten pretty easy.

The problem? What do they do then?

Who do they go after, and how much is that gonna cost? A Jon Sumrall, top G5 candidate? A Ryan Day - but that would prob cost $150M/10 yr deal?

They got the tiger by the tail & now don't know how to get out of the predicament

If a kid goes to A&M and leaves after one year, I would be wary of that kid. Seems like their class last year was more interested in $$ than team. Paying a bunch of HS kids to come to your school is a recipe for disaster. NIL makes sense. Pay for play with a transfer portal will ruin the sport.

A&M ended the year starting a true freshman QB as well as true freshmen at RT, RG and C. Think they also ended up starting a true freshman at DT. How many of those guys are still there I can't tell you.

Great experience- A&M people were very welcoming-- it was better than UGA/UT/Ole Miss imo.
I’ve been to Collrge Station a couple times for games back in the early 2000’s. It is a great place to watch a game. A little “cultish” but fun.

Remember it being a huge crowd for catwalk, but nobody got to see the players because the buses went underground at the stadium.

I watched some of the Polynesian Bowl on Friday night. They opened up talking about the players in the game with NIL and at the top of the list was the Nico dude going to UT. On the opening drive, Nico threw a pick. They interviewed the kid who just made the pick, and he used the phrase "gettin' paid" about 75 times in a 60 second interview. I'd just as soon avoid guys like that.

Yep that’s a ****ing joke. Will have played them once in 14 yrs

90% of them are like that. That's all it will be going forward.

I dunno about "drop in the bucket". I'm pretty sure the AD will be gone if people decide it's worth that. That's not pocket change, even for a pool of A&M donors. Can the come up with? Yes, and quickly. Happily? That's another matter. Not sure you meant that, but it seems implied. Let's just say this... ol' Jimbo and staff won't be the only people pink slipped.

Pretty sure the AD that wrote the contract is now at LSU. Of course, I’d imagine all athletic contracts must receive BoT approval so perhaps there would be some political consequences there.
