Or is the effort just not there like at the beginning of the year? Three of the last 5 games have had teams shoot better than 40% against us. Of those 3, 2 came at home.

Vandy also beat us off the dribble for several contested layups. Vandy overall was quicker than us and hit some big threes as pointed out.

Our interior D remains the same.

The problems start on the perimeter, where we're losing focus off-ball and/or not working hard enough thru screens.

Its nothing severe, so I'm not totally worried.

Ole miss and to a lesser extent Vandy, were hitting almost any shot they wanted. Sometimes the ddfense doesn't matter. LaChance was on it tonight.

We held the best shooting team in the league to 42 percent. We're not going to hold every team under 30 or 40 percent shooting. Our D is good but other teams come to play. VAndy has some good shooters and Stallings runs a great motion offense (with lots of down screens for good measure) that gets guys decent shots.

They scored 57 points folks. Just another example of how expectations are overriding people's common sense. 57 points is hardly "figuring out our defense." In fact, that will be good enough to win EVERY single night.

Well said. Always enjoy reading your takes, FB.

If we don't play like ballerinas in the paint we would have won by 20 pts. Defense was fine. Frontline offense stunk.

The pace was a little bit slowed down. But i still agree, our defense wasnt necessarily bad

Based on our defensive efficiency rating and Vandy's offensive efficiency we were expected to give up .88 points per possession.

We ended up giving up .88 points per possession lol.

It was the offense that was a letdown.

57 points doesn't mean as much when you only score 65 and the game was in doubt with just a couple minutes to go. This against a team we were favored to beat by 20+. It was just a very poor game overall for us and the defense was no where near at it's best. I'm happy for the win, but this wasn't a good game for us by any means and a team will end up beating us if we don't bring it every game.

Yeah but what does scoring 65 have to do with teams figuring out our defense? lol

Our defense was ok. Our transition D was a bit lacking and gave up some 3s on back to back possessions. Our offense did not flow tonight.

Not to mention all the moving screens and grabs as our defender goes over the screen.

Defense leads to offense. How many times have we turned blocks, rebounds, or steals into fast break points this year? All are defensive plays that have helped lead to scoring.

Nothing to figure out. Vandy just made more shots than Alabama. Plus our defensive intensity wasn't the same as it was in Tuscaloosa on Saturday.

If we only give up 57 points and score 65 we will win most of the time

I really don't think the intensity wasn't there on defense.........Vandy is just better at shooting than Alabama is. That's all.

Vandy is 40th in offensive efficiency.
Alabama is 74th in offensive efficiency

Vandy is 20th in Effective FG%
Alabama is 74th in Effective FG%

Vandy was always going to do better than Bama on offense.

The real problem is Vandy stinks on defense yet we put up a stinker on that end tonight.
