Sup with DJ?

Can you find even one quote from a player or former player that he was promised anything?

I know you can’t. So what has convinced you!
Observing reality indicates playing time is given, not earned.
I said "perhaps" playing time is promised...Do you know the definition of the word "perhaps"?
Can you justify DJ's minutes?

I think he’d do better coming in off the bench. He has to be looking over his shoulder waiting to get subbed with each miss or mistake. Obviously he knows Reed and Rob are just waiting to come in. Be hard to play that way. Cal is doing him no favors starting him right now.

I’d like to see him take a page out of DeAndre Liggins book. Come in as a D stopper and spark plug, and let the offense come to him within the flow of the game until he regains his confidence.

Has Bradshaw made a 3 since the one he made in the first UF game??? If he has, I can't remeber it.

Seems like every one he has taken since then looks HORRIBLE!!!

And DJ jacks them up from beyond the NBA line sometimes.

And I remember Cal promoting these 2 as being more than adequate shooters. WHY???!!!!!
Yeah, Cal told DJ to drive and pull up for a jumper. He starts at the half-court line.

That would be another problem for him because he is NOT a good passer OR "facilitator". He is reckless passing the ball and isn't very good at placing it for shooters or the Bigs. That's the biggest reason Reed has played so many minutes this season because None of our other 3 Guards(Rob Antonio, DJ) are good passers.

When you add that to his struggles to score and you have what we see every game. The pressure is making it worse because we are so late in the season. He knows he doesn't have long to show improvement if he wants to get drafted in the 1st round.

But Cal is NOT going to put him on the bench.
He averages 3.4 assists and 1.7 TO per game in 23 minutes. 2-1 ratio, he can definitely be a facilitator. Just needs to be a pass first type PG. He averages those numbers without doing that. It's a shift in focus and mindset only, the skills are there.

Reed averages 4.1 assists and 1.9 TO in 28.4 minutes per game. He already looks to pass first.

on the bright side he shoots better then Fox did
Fox was an interesting one because while his 3pt% was brutal (25% or so?), he was actually really effective with the jumper right inside the 3 point line. I don't have the stats in front of me but I remember Fox making a lot of 19'-20' jumpers over the course of the year, so at least he had that long to mid range game. DJ just doesn't seem to have that in his bag at all. He's either jacking up and missing 3s or predictably driving to his left.

DJ reminds me of Wayne Turner. Good defender, no jump shot, drive and dish or knock down a 10 foot floater. He’s just really struggling finishing right now, maybe he’s getting too deep. IMO

If he was focused on the drive first he would be much more effective. It seems to me he’s pressing a little much maybe trying to prove he’s a jump shooter as well. I think he will be ok just needs to let it come to him a little more.

Stop shooting 3s. It “ain’t” going in. Drive and dish.
Last 7 games he's played in, he's shot 9 for 31 on 2-pt shots. 29%. He's had 2.6 assists to 1.9 turnovers average in these 7 games. He's been worse than ineffective on the offensive end for 5 weeks.

Those assist to turnover numbers were against mostly the easiest part of the schedule.

These numbers were against the SEC. These are the numbers that I am going on. He is NOT a good passer and struggles to find open scorers. Adou is a better passer.

He’s a driver and slasher. Needs to keep doing those things and take less jumpers until after this season. Use the summer to fix the shot.

This issue is simple; he's not anywhere close to 100% healthy, but Cal is playing him like he is.

The reason he keeps shooting 3s is anyone's guess.

His main strength is driving, and if he's on a bum ankle, and can't do that effectively, what else is he gonna do if Cal has him out there? I give the kid credit for toughing it out. He just needs to stop shooting from out there. Focus on midrange looks to build confidence.

It’s actually the opposite. Anthony Davis says he was told he’d have to compete and earn his spot. Says Cal was the only coach who didn’t promise anything. But looking at the last few years, it sure doesn’t seem like that’s Cal’s Mantra. Maybe he changed or maybe there’s things in practice we don’t see. I’ve seen guys who went all out in practice and destroyed everyone but struggled when the lights came on in front of the crowd. I’ve seen guys who struggled in practice who were hoopers when it was game time. So, who knows. lol

Imagine if Cal had stubbornly stuck to Vargas as the starting 5 lol

We better keep Juan healthy he is the only player that can stay between Zeigler and the basket most of our players our looking at the other teams asses

He was 1/12 against Kansas, which many forget as they point to the ankle injury.

He's just not who we thought he would be. That would be fine IF there was any chance he was coming back for a second year, but we know better .... so it's irritating to watch him start and keep jacking up bad shots.

Another thing sad about the DJ situation is he might thrive from coming off the bench and watching how the game unfolds. Plus he's always been the guy. Change it up. Let him try to take on the Dilly role and spark us instead of putting us in a hole.

Sadly Cal will not change. He will keep banging his head against the wall. Sometimes it will work but history proves more times it will not.

Harrison twins said the same and a few others. I believe he does challenge them like that but I also think players look at who will be on the roster to reasonably challenge them.

Looks like DJ sees the end of the season coming and he's pressing. He needs to stop shooting jumpers and left hand drives to the hole and just run the show and look for open guys. Let the game come to him. Not a bad guy to have at the line though. I feel a DJ breakout coming.

When he drives he helps the team and when he shoots jumper he hurts the team, pretty simple. I would say you get one jump shot until you miss one, the rest are drives to finish or pass out.

DJ can dribble effectively and use penetration to generate an assist from time to time.

The problem is that he is a 1 dimensional scorer. He only finishes one way and outside of that, he is a non-threat. And even around the rim, he converts at the lowest percent on the team.

The 3 other guards can do what he can and then some. Reed can generate assists and more transition chances through look ahead passes and is a better shooter, Reeves is one of the best scorers in the conference, and Dilly is electric. At this moment, he is completely overshadowed by players who can do everything he does and then some.

If you think his last 5 games are bad, check out the last 7:

Minutes 166
Reb 7
Ast 18
Pts 31 (4.4ppg)
To 13
FG 9/46 19.5%
3FG 0/15 0%

Also, in 8 of the 23 games he has appeared in, he made 1 field goal or less and in 7 of these games he recorded 2 or less assists.
What makes those numbers even worse, is the fact that RS and RD are on the team....DJ really doesn't have to even see the floor.

Yes, valid point. Just play Reed and Dilly 30+ mpg.

DJ is averaging 26.6mpg. Across this brutal 7 game stretch, he's still averaging 23.7mpg. Dilly, meanwhile, is averaging 23.2mpg on the season and has played less minutes than DJ in the last 7 games.
