Two scoreless innings out of the bullpen yesterday for Austin Strickland. He allowed two hits, walked one and struck out two batters.
Gilliam homered, drove in four and stole a base last night. Not bad.
Cotto (4 IP) and Strickland (3 IP) combined for 7 scoreless innings for Hyannis in the Cape Cod league tonight.
Longwood transfer Hunter Gilliam hit a grand slam last night. He's up to four homers this summer.
Yeah, don't know the why, but he had 4 starts and had an ERA under 2.00 on the best team in the Cape. Have to imagine that it probably wasn't Cotuit wanting him out.
Yeah, that was the plan from the start - he was on a temp contract there and was going to just pitch through June. He was supposed to play at Cotuit after his sophomore year but covid cancelled the season. They weren't planning on having him pitch this summer because of the high workload of a weekend guy in the SEC, but since he was hurt for such a significant part of the year, they decided he could go for a bit this summer. His ERA there should be lower. I watched his last start - he gave up a HR as the first run, but the 2nd run was an error he made fielding a bunt (runner would have reached but he made a bad glove flip trying to get him.) So, that put runners at 2nd and 3rd with no outs. He got a strike out, and then the catcher tried to back pick at 3rd and threw it into LF so the runner scored. Then ground out and fly out. So... no idea how he got charged an earned run for that run.
Mag Cotto went 5 1/3 giving up 1 run with 7 K’s for Hyannis in the Cape last night. His season ERA is 2.11 right now. Would be big if he can be a quality weekend starter next year.
Carson Applegate continues his hot start in the PGCBL. In six games, he's 9-13 (.692) with three doubles, one triple and four RBI. He's also walked six times and struck out just twice.
Mag Cotto latest start in the Cape 4 ip 1 earned run. His ERA is at 2.14 for the season.

Cotto was named the Starting Pitcher for the West Division team in the Cape Cod All Star game.
Nolan McCarthy made the CCL's All-League team and Emilien Pitre earned his team's best player award in the Cal Ripken League.
