The freshman are just out of high school and you know most of them don’t even know how to play defense, much less a zone. Now they are playing for a coach that doesn’t believe in a zone, so that’s not happening.

The idea of not doing all it takes to win is CRAZY. Nothing wrong with primarily playing man, but refusing to zone “just because” is nuts. That one thing shows he’s ego above all else.

If god himself told Cal “zone and win a title”, he’d stick with man. Winning isn’t his goal here.

Zone is FAR easier for a freshman to learn and play. It’s not close.

You have to know how to OACH zone for it to work. Cal hasn't coached strategy like that since his NBA gory days.
