Some Teams Have All The Luck: Since 2010 UNC Has 15 NCAAT Wins With ZERO Wins Versus Top 4 Seeds

Whoa, that is a heck of a stat. Where did you get this? Just good detective work, or is there a nice database somewhere? I'd love to find other gems like this.

Crazy!

UNC is 0-6 versus top 4 seeds in the period 2010-16. Think about that. They are just incredibly lucky. Every year the bracket just opens up for them.

FYI, during that same period, Calipari is 11-3 versus top 4 seeds.

Let's hope that doesn't happen this year...the bracket opening up that is.

Here's an amazing stat.

Since seeding started (79), UK has played in 17 Elite 8's. 15 of those were against teams seeded 1-3, 2 below that.

In the same time, UNC has played in 19 Elite 8's. 10 of those have been against top 3 seeds, 9 below that.

You can always guarantee UK will get paired with UNC, UofL, WVU, etc. I'm with Cal. Do the brackets on an s-curve. Top 1 seed gets the lowest 2 seed and so forth.
Just do this and there can be at least some form of consistency.

UNC's bracket is already opening up with MTSU winning today. I wouldn't be surprised if MTSU beats Butler and UNC just has to beat a #12 seed to get to the Elite Eight.

Butler has beaten Arizona, Vandy, Purdue, Villanova twice, and Cincinnati. I don't expect MTSU to beat them and also think UNC better know what they are up against with little Butler.

Here's a stat for you. The last time Duke defeated a higher seed in the NCAA Tournament was in the Elite 8 in 1994! 2 Seed Duke beat 1 Seed Purdue with Glenn "Big Dog" Robinson.

Coach K has 5 career wins as the lower seeded team.

1988 Elite 8: #2 Duke defeats #1 Temple
1989 Elite 8: #2 Duke defeats #1 Georgetown
1990 Elite 8: #3 Duke defeats #1 Connecticut
1992 Final Four: #2 Duke defeats #1 UNLV
1994 Elite 8: #2 Duke defeats #1 Purdue

Can't really get hung up on this one as Duke has often been the #1 seed during the same time frame. We/commentators need to focus more on their opponents' avg seed and how the bracket opens up for them.

You're right, incredibly they've only played 4 games against higher seeded teams in the past 24 years. They're 9-7 vs 1 & w seeds during that same period. Part of that is them being excellent, but they've also probably been over seeded several times as well.

The website "allbrackets.com" is an excellent site that shows every bracket since the tournament started in 1939 along with other info in very easy to read and navigate form. It's also not loaded down with ads and other BS.

I am a Tar Heel fan but I did not realize this Stat. The one that really bothers me the most is that since 2009 the Heels are 7-20 against you guys, Kansas, and Dook combined. I love the Heels but I am anti Roy. It's a tough and conflicting feeling to have

FYI, during that same period, Calipari is 11-3 versus top 4 seeds.

2-6 Bitch!

That's cool. And with all the years of institutional cheating at your program, you guys are just sniffing what might be title #6?

That's pretty shitty, especially when one considers the fact that Jordan+cheating only gave you guys 5 total titles.
Titles hard to win most of UK's from last century.
