Make sure you read this through because I have a good point to this.
Bottom line, Skal was very underwhelming tonight. He was timid, he missed defensive rotations that resulted in easy Albany buckets (as did all of our guys), he shy'd away from contact and he was way late on some easy blocks. He was a total no show in the first half but showed some things in the second half.
Now, the reason why I bring this up now is because, just like AD and Cuz, watch what Cal and Payne do with this kid. Too many of our idiot rival fans say that these players are pro's before they come to UK. Nobody ever seems to remember what these kids look like in the first half of the season. Well, pay attention haters because Skal is far from an NBA player right now.

Yeah, this seems to be a pattern right now but I just think about what that kid has been through. He is still feeling this all out. When he gets it he will be dominant.

AD's early season trouble area was offense, and Skal's is defense. Not worried about him. However, unless Lee and Poythress (who are not freshmen) don't step up and provide that rim protection, it's gonna be a problem.

His lack of competitive play last season may have something to do with that. There are flashes of brilliance, just not enough of them yet.

Lee played great today but his game is still missing some things. AP…. What can you say, he just isn't there yet. Man I really hope he comes alive soon. He is "built like tarzan but has the game of Jane". TS.
We need Lee, Humphries and Alex to bring it at least until Skal gets it.

He just needs to get comfortable, he'll be fine.

I love that call says to the potential #1 pick that if he can't get it done, he can't play him. Tough love.

Yes, he did show some flashes in the second half. When he gets it he is going to be great. Can't wait.

he wasnt underwhelming at all. he played exactly how i thought he would play. if you were underwhelmed...you are stupid and dont get how this works.

Really, thanks for those insults a$$hole. Totally uncalled for. Nobody said anything that was out of line. Except for you. The more I see you post the more I realize you are simply a Jacka$$. No other way to put it. I've tried to be cordial with you but that doesn't work.

screw cordial...just be smart.

skal underwhelming....its just stupid. if you know how its going to work this year...its a process...then underwhelming makes zero sense. zero.

Yeah, I dunno about Skal. If I didn't know better I say it was his first college game.
Well, it really isn't his first college game but, as was already said by me and several others, he's feeling this out right now. I wasn't knocking the kid, my op was more of a compliment to Cal but it sounds like you took it out of context.

I think you need to put the vodka down and reread from the beginning. You're truly an idiot.

Lighten up Francis. I'm just having some fun.

And what was his first one if not this one? Those exhibition games don't count.

You're a joke. Go clean yourself up. You totally missed the point.
This whole thread went right over your head.

The exhibition games count when you're talking about experience.
Sorry, I was having fun and being positive until I was attacked by the neighborhood butthead. I got a little chapped. I've got no problem with you Bass.

dude, can you not handle people having a different opinion than you? Let it rest!
Wait what? I'm fine with a difference of opinion but my God there's no reason to attack me and call the thread stupid. My op was meant to be positive. I didn't say anything that should cause me to get attacked by a fellow uk fan.
Again, I'm not complaining about the difference of opinion, I just don't think I deserved to be attacked. I've seen Boston do that same thing to too many others on this board for no reason.

In all honesty, I expect Skal faced tougher competition in high school than those two exhibition teams gave him. This game was the first effort that 'counts'. That's an instant case of nerves.

But that was my point. Rival fans…. And Bill Self keep saying these top players are NBA ready and Cal isn't really doing anything but look at what Skal looks like right now. Compare this to what we see in a couple months. That's my point.

you think getting attacked is someone calling your thread stupid? what a puss.

go read the news about people who were really attacked in paris today.

Go back and read what you posted tomorrow or Sunday when you dry out from your drunken tirade. You're a jackass.

I frankly don't care much about what Self has to say. The guy is worse than John Dromo about flame outs with good players.

I just don't count exhibition games in player experience. Don't learn a lot of basketball beating up on your little sister. Frankly, the blue/white game was more challenging than either exhibition game.

I think it does prove the coaching ability of Cal when we see the growth of Cousins,Davis, Townes, etc. from the beginning of the season to tournament time. I look forward to seeing how far Skal will progress during the season.
Well, at least someone understood what I was trying to say.

Skal is a FRESHMAN and will improve steadily as time goes on...also there are 3 other issues to consider for tonight (1) Karl Hess was one of the refs (calls phantom fouls on UK EVERY TIME and that got in Skal's head (2) there is another game tomorrow night so Cal subbed a lot keeping Skal from getting into any sort of "rhythm" (3) he might be thinking about DUKE next Tuesday (U think?)

I thought the officiating was pretty good tonight.

Doubt Skal was thinking about Duke tonight.

This was the season opener and we play another game before them.

Hess is a mess, and I thought he sat quite a bit as well, but he played 30 minutes.

He definitely needs to be more physical in the post and assert his will down there.

But as you stated, we have seen most of our bigs progress very well as the season goes on.

I think he will be fine.
