SIAP: A little panic in Fayetteville

I'm not buying any of this. My opinion: Calipari gets a pass this season, no matter what happens. I doubt it will be a losing season, but anything is possible.

December includes...
At Miami (not impossible, but tough), then neutral game with Michigan (which will be tough).

Then comes the SEC, which is gonna be tough for everyone. 18 games of murderer's row. He's got 2 losses already with a couple more likely before January. OOC 9-4 is likely. I bet 10-8 is the best he'll do in the SEC, could be worse. So, 19-12 is likely, and a bubble team.

But 8-10 in the SEC and 17-14 overall is also possible, which leaves them an NIT team. From what I've seen of Arkansas so far, they're gonna have a tough time winning anything on the road.

Having said all this, I still say it's a free pass this season for Cal. They've inversted too much to drop him quickly. Do it again next year and they'll lose patience with him quickly.

I've already seen Arkansas fans worried because they just went 0-3 with Abaev , Cenac, and Wilson, add in 0-2 against good competition and Cal saying things like they havent scrimmaged much. they have like 5 walk on types , they can easily scrimmage to some degree.

I think that OzzyMaverick guy is just seeing how many Arkansas fans he can get riled up while at the same time knowing UK fans hang on every quote like that.

But what speaks volumes now is Antigua at Illinois and Welch taking on a coaching gig. They knew that is was more of the same, and don't forget Jai Lucas - another coaching one and done for Cal.

Cal wants a built-in excuse every season now.

- injuries
- not enough players to scrimmage
- no practice against a zone yet

The dude is just a walking excuse at this point. Same shit he was doing at Kentucky when we sucked.

The original source is Pilgrim though. And Pilgrim has a solid reputation for getting good info.

I mean, would we doubt that Cal's system at Arky is disorganized when we saw the exact problems here?

Idk, seems a lot of Arkansas fans are quickly realizing what they have in Cal, and if they fans see this, so does the school, program, staff, etc. We've seen several videos, news articles, Twitter opinions, etc.

Cal was able to withstand the last few years at UK doing this, because of the success he had in the 2010s. So not only does he not have that resume with Arkansas, but they've seen what he was like the last few years for us.

These situations really aren't the same. We hired a very successful coach who was just under heat for some silly player eligibility issues. Arkansas on the other hand got a coach who was run out of town for sucking the final few years. So I don't think we has the same runway he had here, and that's why I still think this could end rather quickly for him and Arkansas

And on top of this, it's not like Cal is going to Arkansas with a ton of fire under him, like he did at UK back in 2009. So even for him, at his age and with his attitude, who knows on his end how long he wants to drag this out.

I still think there's a pretty decent chance that this is a one year thing, and he just up and retires from college coaching.

He was the original source but he didn't say anything about Cal looking for an exit. I mean you don't have to have an inside source to see there are issues. Arkansas fans believed you stacked the team with talent Cal would dominate. UK fans tried to tell them. I can't see any way Cal walks away with the paycheck he is getting and the NIL money at his disposal. They'll have to chase him off

Yeah. I didn’t mean this to seem like I th8nk he’s gonna bolt. This was more of a “Uhih things aren’t well down there”.

And @Bkocats i agree. It’s sad to see what Cal has become. That video of him pushing his old dog in the stroller will make me sad for a long time. I liked Cal. Liked him a lot. And our decline kinda stared after my Mom died so it just was kinda joined at the hip. I just hope he’s not declining health wise and that’s what’s caused some of these issues. That would break my heart to be honest.

I know this may be unpopular but it’s really kind of sad

Had he not spent the better part of the last 4-5 years berating fans as "basketball bennies" amongst other disrespectful gestures towards the BBN, I'd agree.

But nope, don't care if he wallows in the bed he made.

Exactly, ccc could not accept the fact that UK fans know the game and called him out on his lack of coaching abilities and favoritism.

Good post. Cal is dangling two top 10 incoming recruits in front of the Razorback fanbase, the same way he dangled the Reed and Rob recruiting class in front of BBN. It's all he has left these days is the fact that he's still a premium recruiter.

The pieces won't fit again next year. DJ Wagner will be back, crowding an already-crowded backcourt that will include redundant guards like Maleek Thomas and Darius Acuff.

They'll still be horrific at shooting next year. Tons of elite athletes, no spacing.

Rinse and repeat.

I agree and I like your empathy, but I also see the other side. Cal's last four years here were horrific with only one tourney win. He made roughly $36 million during that time.

$36 million for one tournament win means I can't feel too sorry for the man. Plus, he decapitated our program by the way he left us without a single scholarship player.

Now, he's being overpaid to do it at Arkansas at roughly $8 million per year.

I just got off the phone with a recovering addict who has no place to live after being fired from her job. That's the type of people we should truly feel sorry for. Not Mr. I watch Little House on the Prairie from my luxury mansion while wearing my lasagna bib and counting my 403B interest.

I'm still throwing him to the wolves. After all, he threw BBN to the wolves.

You’re correct of course
As I responded to @TheDude73 I tend to be a softy
I guess it’s in large part because of where WE are now that I feel a little more…magnanimous? towards the man
But you are absolutely right.

We need people with your level of empathy in this fan base, otherwise we would likely cannibalize each other.

You're one of our best fans.

I have to agree. Cal stayed at UK about 5 years too long. If he had left after 10 most fans would have been upset.
I'm old enough to realize if you've had success it's really hard to change.
I'm tickled to death with what Pope has done so far even though there was an on line near riot when he was hired.
I really don't take much pleasure in rubbing a guys face in it when they struggle.

Probably a UK fan, lol.

That awkward introduction in Fayetteville with the band playing, etc. told it all. His face, wow. It was and still is the LAST city he wants to be in. He's fueled by revenge right now, which is really sad.

You embody the principle that the best revenge is living well. Bitterness is bad for one's health. Glad to see you don't harbor any. I'm getting there. LOL

I agree, but he did this to himself. He is the one who refused to listen to everyone that tried to help him, he's the one that crapped on Robic and he's the one that chose to focud on individual goals and accomplishments. He's the one that got lazy, he's the one that pushed good players aside so his pets could play through whatever they were dealing with and he's the one that thought calling the BBN "a bunch of Basketball Bennies* was a good idea, then doubled down on it multiple times during the catastrophe of that 20/21 season.

He brought all this upon himself and he STILL refuses to change. It's like he thinks losing 10-12 games a year with loaded roaters is okay and everyone should thank him for helping kids prepare for their NBA futures.

I hope he continues to kill his reputation at Arkansas and continues to blame everyone else. The more UK wins and the more Arkansas loses, the more obvious this all becomes for the cbb world.

Coaches don't fare well after leaving UK except Pitino. Cal going the Tubby route

Cal should of taken a few years off done ESPN n reflect a little - his ego is so large it likely wouldn't help

Where did Welch go ? I guess I missed that.

He could call me whatever he wants to if he'd actually been trying to win basketball games. Not even trying to win games while employed as the UK coach is what really pissed me off.
