I'm nervous and excited for Friday and Saturday! Albany returns four starters from a team that made the tournament and gave a three seeded Oklahoma team a tough game. Three starters are seniors that averaged double digits last year. Also they are projected to finish in the top two of their conference along with Stony Brook.

We have a few vets in Poythress, Lee, and Ulis so even though Albany is senior loaded UK has a few experienced players as well. Also our freshmen are probably bigger than their seniors and are more talented. Albany can give us a game but UK pulls away to win 85 to 65

I think it will be close early, with Albany maybe leading some in the first half, but we should pull away late in the game and win by double digits with it being at Rupp.

Looks like they have a couple of new JUCO guys and some seniors but they are also replacing a couple of studs. Sam Rowley was their leading scorer.
Also, I'm not putting too much stock into them giving Oklahoma a scare. I mean they are a BIG12 team. We have seen it over and over the last 10+ years. That pattern has revealed that the B12 is seriously overrated. The conference has KU and that is it.
Smart will change that now that he's at Texas but nobody else is worth a crap. But the talking heads and KU fans want you to think it's a tough conference. It's a joke.

Hard to project, this will be a BIG step-up in competition level from the scrimmages. Like Cal says, I'd like to see how this group reacts when it gets punched in the mouth.
These are the type of games Coach K scheduled for years that you have to give him credit for. Gaming the schedule with solid mid-majors who will not hurt your RPI but stand little chance of winning the game.

I think our defense will be a key factor against Albany, along with our ability to score in the paint. We are supposed to be able to win this game. But...we got to take care of business against a team that will probably treat this game like its the ncaa tourney.

So long as Ulis and Murray don't get lost on their way to Rupp I like our chances.

KenPom projects UK to win 74-56. I think given the B2B, the NJIT game might be tougher than Albany.

I hope not. I'm driving up from Nashville for that game. UK is a deep team so that should not be an issue.

NJIT is probably better than Albany but I will start that thread after the Albany game. They actually return everyone from a team that won over twenty games and is projected to contend in their conference as well.

For those obsessed with schedule strength, Albany and NJIT highlight a hidden strength of our nonconference schedule in that we don't have many absolutely horrendous opponents. Eastern is probably the worst, but even they are better than the Marists, Grand Canyon, and Montana State's of the college basketball universe. Not playing teams in the 10th percentile of the NCAA is as important, or even more important, to building a solid strength of schedule rating as playing top teams.

That's a link to their forums. They actually seem confident with their experience however they don't really go into talking about the game much.
Good find. Really only one "Kentucky cheats" type post and it was actually pretty funny. Someone posted a link to the special edition Kentucky shoes Nike released and said "Where's our shoe?" and another poster replied "That's OK. I heard those shoes only last a year and can't be worn in classrooms."

I expect Albany to give us a good game for 12-15 minutes. Playing them and NJIT will be good in the lead up to Duke (though I'm not a huge fan of the back to back games). Any and all experience we can get will be good for our young players.

I like this one regarding UK: "Do they know who we are?"
Yes, Albany, we know you. We know everything about you. We are UK. We have FANS watching last years Albany game film...we will have FANS posting what you eat for breakfast the day of the game.

This, in contrast to our players and coaches, who are likely doing none of these things because, well, they aren't real concerned about the fightin' Great Danes
