Shabazz

Butthurt ? yeah. Shabazz is who he is, has nothing to do with UK. Dudes like him are dime a dozen in the NBA.

You don't understand his post, so to say his career absolutely would be the same no matter what program he went to is ignorant. Why? Because you have no clue, nor do I how things would have gone for him under different guidance. A little thing here or there can make a big difference, good or bad.

Shabazz was never so far and away talented that he was going to transcend other NBA players. But as the article says, he thinks shot first, second, and third. Do you think Cal would have maybe had some influence on that?

You can't deny his track record of helping players stick in the NBA by preparing them in college. When we all say "oh wow we dodged that bullet," did we? Or is it more likely that there is no one that prepares you more for the NBA than Cal? I think it's entirely possible that Muhammad could have at least played out his rookie options if he'd gotten the same instruction as others who came to UK.

Conjecture? Sure. But there's a lot of circumstancial evidence that says UK one and dones stick better than others.

Shabazz was just never that good. You could see it at UCLA. He could only use his left hand. He wasn't quick enough to consistently get by people. If he couldn't bully you physically and you didn't give him a lot of open spot up opportunities, there wasn't much he could do. Plus the lying about his age hurt. It's ridiculous to think Cal could fix all of that.

It's actually really hard to be a good NBA player.

Cal has an eye for elite talent, is the best at landing elite talent, is the best at maximizing the production from elite talent immediately, and will put you in the best position to maximize your draft stock.

What you do when you get to the NBA is on you.

Our approach tends to attract the guys who will buy in and keep working and all the things it takes to be successful. And Cal should get tons of credit for that.

But he can't give you a magic secret at 18 years old in 6 months that makes you a great pro. He can make you better in college and get you drafted higher. But pro? That's gotta come from you.

What's even more ridiculous is thinking Cal could get Harrelson out of the pop tart stall all the way to a 2nd round NBA pick and 788k of earnings...oh wait.

Definite fairy tale. UK had two top 10 recruits in that very same class, one(Noel) who is still sitting without a deal, and the other(Poythress) who is just hoping to make the team. Not to mention a top 15 recruit in Goodwin who has bounced around.
They already said Noel will get paid. They want him in Dallas. Good call. Smh

It's August 13 and Noel is sitting as a restricted free agent with no offers from any other team in the league or an offer from Dallas. Sure they want him in Dallas, just at a low number that doesn't tie up their cap space for next summer. Same situation with Muhammad. Minnesota wants him but only on a minimum deal.

He's going to make millions.

Noel has a contract that will pay him $4.2M next year. At this point he might be better off to play out his contract and come back next summer as an unrestricted free agent. He might not get a max offer next year, but I bet he will be closer to a max than he is to whatever Shabazz ends up with.
