Rupp Rafters NBA Legends GM Draft Round 10 Aike OTC

For those unfamiliar, here's how it works:

We draft from a pool of every NBA player, past and current, to build the team that would win a best of 7 playoff style format against the other drafted teams. Michael Jordan has been removed from the player pool.

The draft will be 14 teams with a randomized draft order, snake style. 10 rounds. Owners have a maximum of 12 hours per pick. When that time expires, the next person is automatically on the clock. If you time out twice, you're removed from the draft and your team is given to an alternate.

Last time, we named a specific year for that player, but I think it was cumbersome and unnecessary. This time, we'll be drafting the totality of a player's career. The way that person is generally recognized and remembered.

There are no position requirements or limitations. No coaches will be drafted.

When we finish drafting, we'll randomize the matchups and let voters choose which teams advance until a champion is crowned. if someone wants to run a 2k simulation for these playoff series, that would be cool too.

Believe I picked 6th in the GM draft last summer and 8th the year before. I've suggested before that we randomize the order and let that be the order you get to select your pick from, but people say it's too much work and not fun.

If it were up to me, I'd have picked 8th with no MJ and get two guys in my top tiers since the first 5-6 players are likely just preference and position.

It would be easy to take a guy who blocked nearly 3200 shots despite the stat not being kept the first four years of his career. A guy who blocked *at least* 3 shots per game until he was 33 years old, when he blocked 2.9 per game.

It would be easy to take a 6 time MVP, a 6 time NBA champion, a 15 time All-NBA selection, and an 11-time All Defense selection.

But when that guy also averaged 4 assists per game from the center position, dominated every level of basketball his entire life, and was the Greatest Of All Time *before* Nike and Gatorade and Sportscenter told you it was someone else, there's only one choice for this Lakers fan to start his team:

To be honest, I would have picked Kareem. He’s my favorite all-time player, and arguably the best player of all time.

That being said, you can just as easily argue this guy as best. Kareem had one lonely title in over a decade in the league before my pick took the league by storm as a rookie.

And I almost didn’t pick him, then I thought about the time Kareem stayed home for game 6 against Philly and my player, the point guard, played center.

42 points, 15 rebounds, and 7 assists later, the Lakers were champs. And my pick, Earvin “Magic” Johnson, the original “positionless” player, was well on his way to legendary status.
