NEW: Five-star post player Jarrett Allen flying under the radar as he comes to UK for an official visit this weekend http://bit.ly/1RVNw5C

Offensively, he probably doesn't get enough credit." Daniels said. "He has a terrific set of hands and touch around the goal. He can make jump hooks. He can face up and make short-range shots. He's really gotten confident when he goes over his left shoulder. He just scores it well around the basket.

"And because of his athleticism and his ability to get off the court quickly, he's a good rebounder and a guy who contests shots."

UK will host Allen for an official visit this weekend, the latest in a series of trips as he gets more serious about his college recruitment.

Allen started the process with an official visit to Notre Dame last month. He has since taken official visits to Kansas and Houston, and he's also been on some unofficial visits to hometown Texas.

The other schools on his list are Indiana, Kansas State and North Carolina.

Both ESPN and the recruiting website Hoopseen.com have recently called Kentucky the favorite to land Allen, but Daniels says it's still unclear which way he's leaning, in part because he rarely discusses his recruitment at all.

So now we're the favorite to land Allen? Wow. I didn't even know we were that high on the kid's list. I guess if you can't get Giles, Allen would be a nice backup plan that every school in the country would love to have as their # 1 guy. With the guys we're projected to have next season, Allen might be the type of guy we need. We will have the best guards in the country if we land who we're expected to land. We will just need a big to grab some rebounds and hold his own in the post. Even though i'm not expecting a world beater with Allen, i do think he has the talent to do just that. Is Allen considered a onendone or 2 year player? I'm not talking about talent. It really doesn't matter if it's realistic to expect a kid to leave after one year nowadays on production alone. It seems that doesn't even matter and it's whatever the kid has in his head that does.

This the big man I hope and think we get . Realistically that is . But I do think if Cal can get Giles he will also add a center like Bolden or Allen if he can so its not like an either or thing as we are going to lose a lot of guys after this year and we have a ride available as it is .

Mee too! I want this kid at UK. Just seems like he would be a great match with the 2 guys we have committed already. Match that up with Humphries and I like Allen even more. I think Wynyard is a couple years away from being really good and I'm not expecting too much from him next year. Not sure if Cal is either with the way he is recruiting. But I really like Allen and really hope he ends up with us. He has been pretty quiet about his recruitment, I wonder when he is thinking about committing? Early or late?

Yeah I agree I think Wynyard is going to be really good but Allen is the kinda kid who will be a lottery pick by his 2nd season and we need a shot blocker and athlete like him.

I haven't seen Allen play, but my son goes to a school that is the same conference (and my son's school has Jae Ledee, a sophomore who has an offer from UK. The schools in this conference are certainly "academics first" type schools, but they are producing a lot of talent. FYI, Justise Winslow played for a school in the conference 2 years ago. I guess I will need to see the game between Allen-Ledee this Winter.

Nice!

From what little I've read about him from the scouting sites and seen from him on mixtapes, he seems like the prototypical Cal big man with his measurements and skills (6'10" lean athlete that is a strong shot blocking, defensive and rebounding presence, perhaps a little underrated offensively). He doesn't seem to be as much of a threat running the floor and finishing lobs as some of our other recent big men, but he looks comfortable and confident with his post moves.

With what we've already got and what we will hopefully add (Fox and Monk), I would gladly take Allen with no complaints. That would be a great recruiting class that'll have us in contention for the national championship once again.

I think UK get this kid. He had to like the way Cal was feeding him the ball in the 2nd half.

With the guards we're recruiting and lead for next year, if you're a big man, i don't see how Kentucky wouldn't be your best school to fit your style of play. If this kid wants to play with an elite point guard to get him the ball, he will go ahead and commit and get this recruiting game over with.

Humphries - Allen - Wynyard
Gabriel - SKJ - Wynyard - Willis
Matthews - Willis
Monk - Mulder
Fox - Hawkins

That's four first round picks among the starters (Matthews could make it as well), and two first round picks among the bench.

If Cal pulls in Fox, Monk, and Allen...

Give me Bam or Allen and this is a great class in the front court.
