RJ Davis…

UNC has been in control most of this game. They’ve led by 8-12 for most of the 2nd half. But Oklahoma has cut it to 6 with 1:45 to go.

It’s rare that I pull for UNC but now that we’ve got a win over them under our belt i wouldn’t mind seeing them knock off a top 10 and still undefeated OU to further validate that win.

Bacot is the most overrated UNC player ever. He’s basically on the top of their leaderboard because he’s started since 1945. He did get them to a NC but that was more Love than him.
He’s a good rebounder but he’s not a great passer, doesn’t really Protect the paint all that much, and rarely ever shoots a jumper. Honestly Oscar was way more developed than him IMO and people still complained that he didn’t do enough.

He's a really good player, but unfortunately for him, he's a SG trapped in a PG body. That's fine in college. Gonna limit him in the NBA because he's not exactly a skilled distributor. He'll need to show he can do that on the next level.
Luckily he does possess the one skill they covet now and that’s shooting.

I said it during our game with them. How is Wagner a projected first rounder and Davis not even wanted by nba teams?
Do you remember RJ Davis being able to take over a game as a freshman at UNC? If you don't that should answer your question.

Seriously, you have to compare Davis to the player Wagner is going to be in 4 years.

I’m not trying to knock DJ. I’m just saying Davis has developed into a very good player who can drive, knock down the jumper, and create his own shot. I don’t see the big gap between the two.
I remember Booker who couldn’t start as a freshman. He turned out to be pretty good.

To be fair, Booker starts on like 99% of college teams that year and is probably the leading scorer for a bunch of them.

Go back and watch some of his high school tape. He was capable of MUCH more than the role he played for us.

The issue there was we were loaded and Booker wanted to win more than he wanted to be THE MAN. So he accepted a lesser role. We would have been more potent on offense had we started book over Aaron or Andrew, but he was a statue on defense at the time.

Yup. That’s your difference. Wagner is much more of a PG also. Not saying he’s a prototypical PG, but he’s more of one than Davis. Hell, the age of 22 is damn near an automatic bar from going in round one, in itself.
Most NBA pros reach their highest proficiency around 25-27 years of age. Davis has room to grow as well. The bottom line is how often the ball goes through the net. Wagner will probably become a higher percentage shooter as well.

I don’t disagree. The NBA doesn’t draft that way, though.

He wins them games a lot of times, but he will be the reason they lose in the tourney. Now that Caleb Love is gone, Davis is running around looking for his shot the entire game. He’s what I call a ball stopper. If they pass the ball around; it will always stop once it hits his hands as he would rather find his own shot. He has enough talent around him if he would trust them.

Nobody has even mentioned defense yet….Wagner is clearly our best perimeter defender (main reason we lost Wilmington game) and will only improve in that area as he matures. Davis doesn’t play much defense at all, has very little vision and passing ability. The poster above nailed it that he is a SG. He only does two things well: Score & rebound for his position. But he is too short to play SG in the NBA. Don’t shoot me but I think Sheppard is too short to play SG in the NBA as well.
