Refs make the SEC unwatchable

College refs need to be replaced. Not sure how, how high-school refs probably better. But Shows, Lindsay, TV Teddy, etc... have been around too long and care more about screen time than the right call.

You would think more experience the better, but it just seems to make them worse. Like Napoleon or little somewhere else complex. The more confident they get the wors4 a ref they seem to be. Put em all out to pasture and bring in new blood.

Supposedly OK coach said refs, probably Shows me the money, considered technical foul on BG.

How not much happened, especially with OK players mouthing all night and the buzzer had sounded. Game over bitch!

Said he was checking to see if a tech occurred before the clock ran out.

So after all of OK’s pushing and grabbing and taunting all night, they were going to try to give us a loss because BG yelled at the end. Good guys survived this one.

So sick of it
Last night KY had 21 fouls and OK had 2 fouls. The refs do not have anything against us or any other team. We are playing is an time that will continue to emulate the NBA as far as fouls. The refs no doubt have been, for past couple of years, been told to let the play. What use to be fouls are no longer called. Last night we fouled several times as did OK that were not called and will not be called in future games. Why we continue to cry , it the damn refs, is foolish. Actually last night I thouf=ghtwe had a better whistle than the home team. It is not going to change, and Pope will at some point teach tough man to man agressive defense. To do this we need quicker kids recruited going forward.

People keep saying "these aren't just SEC refs".. but then how come the Big12 and Big10 finish games with half the fouls across the conference? We have to at least acknowledged the SEC is being whistled far more.
That's a easy answer.. SEC it just means more. Or the SEC is so tough it results in 25 to 30 more fouls called then any other game.

Its been this way for years before this historic season the SEC is having. You can't tell me that "these" schools in the southeast all just foul a ton more than "those" schools in the midwest..

It's not to say that it's cheating or it's deliberate, but it's something that should be corrected. No one wants to pay tickets to see the star players not on the floor because of foul trouble. SEC needs to look at dialing the fouls back.

The problem is that the fouls they call are suspect while they, accidently on purpose, miss the actual infractions, and they often call a one sided game.

In case you think you are crazy because of the few morons on this site who refuse to admit the obvious, let me assure you that you are not. Go to other boards and you will see the same observations about the refs, especially where UK is concerned. When other fan bases admit we are getting a bad whistle then it is bad.

I said that a few times. The officiating is really had in the Big East and I watched Illinois get completely screwed at Michigan State.

But that doesn't mean those leagues call more fouls, it just means the officiating controlled the games and favored one team.

The SEC led the nation in foul calls last year by a lot and I bet it leads again this year.

Nobody wants to hear anything you have to say
That’s not true. He’s right. The officials are terrible. But they are not terrible one way.

Some on here start complaining about the calls before the games start.

Some in the game chat try to call the game more than Bias does.

Some only watch the officials. They don’t even know a game is going on.

Officials have nothing to do with our not guarding. We don’t get fouled because we are a finesse team.

We happen to play in a conference that doesn’t give 2 sh!ts about basketball.

Officials get fired in other conferences and the SEC hires them.

Officials retire and the SEC brings them out of retirement.

Some are over the top like the one that chased down Pope. But have you heard of UK or the SEC doing anything about it?

These games are about the players, coaches and schools.

Some only care about the officials.

There's a rule fouls are to be even?

We suck defensively, its not a mystery, we have to foul to recover
I think the issue is, we keep getting called for minor touch fouls that don't affect the play when both teams are out there playing rugby.

The fouls on our bigs the first half were just stupid calls when both teams are pounding each other.

Yeah, we got away with one when Garrison brought his arms down, stripped the guy and got a tie up, but that further illustrates the incompetence. The refs knew they had gone too far on us, so they gave us a break on one.

It was definitely a technical foul against Oklahoma on the player that grabbed Brea after he made the rebound right before the time ran out.

On one of the replays it clearly showed Frears flip his arm out with a closed fist as Garrison ran by, trying to hit him in the balls. THATS what he was yelling about a really cheap shot.

"I didn't see anything, and I didn't call anything, but I am going to review the footage in slow motion to see if I can find an excuse to take Kentucky's win."

And some here still don't think we should talk about how crooked these guys are.

Here is my take on refs. They are essentially furniture. To me they are faceless robots that are a part of the game. I don't know what kind of ball is used during the game. I don't know who the timekeeper is and I sure as hell don't know the names of the officials. I recognize names like doug shows only because you people start crying about them the day before the game. But if you lined all these guys up in front of me I couldn't tell you their names. Not even shows. I do know that one black guy loves the camera. But still don't know who he is.
But I will concede that the officiating is getting worse overall across the sport. The reviews are killing the game. The foul calls are inconsistent and these guys are starting to become minor celebrities themselves and honestly the fans have themselves to thank for some of that. You're breathing life into their sports celebrity status just by posting about them on social media and attaching pics and names. That guy who chased down pope the other night has been all over social media. That little dude loves it and he is proud of that moment. So he's gonna keep doing that shit and others will follow. These guys will always find their time to shine and get some attention. It's like the plate umpire who finally gets to ring the batter up on a strike 3 looking. He's been waiting all day for that. We as fans have to stop being obsessed with the officials because they love it when we are.

I also do not think there is an anti kentucky bias and no we do not get screwed every single night out. Literally every team on planet earth gets hosed on the regular and it's more indicative of the decline in quality of the entire officiating process. Like Bobby Knight said, the officials have a hard job and they do it poorly. But 99% of games are lost because the losing team did not execute efficiently enough to overcome the uncontrollable variables in the game, i.e. the officiating. I probably can't count 5 games where I can honestly say we lost the game SOLEY because of the refs in my lifetime. The refs are almost always gonna suck but as long as your team doesn't suck on the floor you can still plan on winning the game. Control what you can control.

I complain about the bad calls in the moment just like everyone else. But we gotta stop the constant whining and crying day in and day out over the refs. Makes a person look so weak. It really is a loser mentality.

Oh they saw something and something did happen. I was screaming at BG to get the hell away. What they should have done in that moment was just turn the blind eye and run off the floor. But what they did was run to the monitor and try to influence the outcome because the NCAA has given them too much space to operate. This was their time to shine, to truly influence an outcome. If BG had ran up on the guy a split second sooner then we would be the talk of the sports world this morning. We got hella lucky.

I will say, Kentucky might have gotten some calls last night in that 2nd half. I'd have to go back and look. But there were 1 or 2 big calls we didn't get whistled for.. and at one point it was like 2 fouls on us to 6 on them. I can't be TOO upset with last night. Because sometimes the calls are even. And a few times we kind of luck out.

Problem is it's few and far between.

I just hate where the guards drive in and fall down and they call it a foul on us 96% of the time, Sears made a living doing it the other night and it has happened multiple times this season, I believe that is one reason our defense is as bad as it is, trying to stay out of foul trouble.

52 fouls in A&M vs Vandy

That wasn’t the story because A&M started intentionally fouling us with over three minutes to go but for most of the game there was a huge gap in fouls called on Vandy and fouls called on TA&M.

It was 28 free throws to 13 with about 5 minutes left. 18 fouls on VU, 9 on A&M.

A&M was mugging us…. No call. Then they got a single hand on them, whistle and to the line.

SEC refs are so insanely bad.

I always like Pitino's theory. The refs are going to be bad and call fouls, so we are just going to play aggressive and rough to the point the refs get tired of calling fouls unless it is egregious. Then, opponents have to live with more minor contact (hand checks, grabs, slaps) than they are accustomed to and effects their play. Pitino is definitely not a role model, but one of the best college coaches ever period.

The fouls were 10-4 at one time. It was close to even by halftime. We aren't a great defensive team, but all those early fouls had to make us even more passive. By the end, OU had more fouls called on them than we did.

Like many of you, I was FORCED to watch the Vandy aTM game. With 1:51 left in the game, the score was 71-62. The final was 86-84. Thirty-seven points were scored in that 1:51. Between fouls, reviews, and timeouts it takes 20-30 minutes to play out the last 2 minutes of a game. SMH

Please post a horrible call on Oklahoma from Twitter.

The classic throw both arms up and kick your head back. SEC refs have been buying this for years, I’m certain that most coaches are now teaching this. Except UK. Weird how Theiro didn’t do it here but it’s a staple in his game now.

The MO to beat Kentucky is play physical. Their coach knows refs can't or won't call them all.

Last night our bench had 3 fouls. Ok's bench had 10 fouls. They send in their unskilled goons with orders to not allow our players to move without lots of contact. Unfortunately, it often works.

Got to be very frustrating for our guys.

That reminds me of the way UNCheats and Duke players would do

They kept showing graphics last night showing that Oklahoma had to beat Kentucky to have a chance to get in the tournament and don't you know they showed SEC commissioner Stanky in attendance there. Everyone knows a conference gets more $ with more teams in. So I figured the refs might have a little pressure on them to help the conference out. Who knows if they are instructed to do anything or not. Money and power drives EVERYTHING. Who can you really trust now? Just look at the actions of our government over the last few years.

My fear is that SEC teams are going to really struggle with foul trouble in the tournament. The SEC is physical, and been officiated that way. It's not gonna be that way in the NCAAT.

Make up calls. Garbage
I posted this exact thing in the game thread! After they realized they had already made it a clown show at 10-5 they started giving up a couple of BS whistles our way. I’m just so sick of the garbage. We had 4 players with 2 fouls on them a piece at the half this shit has got to stop. We couldn’t get no kind of flow in that first half because every single one of our good player sit for the majority of it!
