I worked Saturday so I missed the game. My son told me last night, while observing the "quality" officiating, that a ref tried to bait Pope into getting a T during the Bama game. Did anyone else notice this? My son said the ref seemed to stop the game and ran towards Pope.

Yeah that was pretty bad. It was a big topic after the game. The ref should be fined

It was highly unprofessional. Pope said his piece and starting walking toward the far end of the bench. Ogglesby got this weird look of hate across his face and started stalking Pope down to continue an argument. Was pretty odd, and very unprofessional. Pope did exactly what he was supposed to do and walk away. Ogglesby want to get Pope a T or tossed. It should definitely be sent to the head of officials!

Shifting to last night's game, exactly what were the refs reviewing at the end of the game.
I didn't think you could use the monitor to call foul that wasn't called during live play. There
was no clock issue. F1 or F2 weren't on the table were they?

I think they were reviewing the time. Someone intentionally fouled Brea by grabbing his shirt after he dribbled away with the rebound. They probably were making sure there was no more time on the clock in light of that.

They were trying to see if Garrison was being unsportsmanlike before the clock expired. It was close. Pope hopefully talked to him about it.

They were looking to see if Garrison's shenanigans happened before the clock expired.

Imagine being verbally assaulted by Coach K for 20 years.. but the one time good ol' Pope fires back, the ref gets upset.

I’m not gonna say coach K isn’t great, or try to argue against his accolades. I guess it’s part of the game. But Duke basketball was afforded so many luxuries and lee way not just on the court but off that no other program got during his tenure.

It started with the UNLV upset. The sports governing body and world wide leader decided right then that was their new flagship and face of the sport from then on and they did everything to build and protect that. Sometimes i hate that I was born in a college basketball state. This sport is largely a sham.

They were looking for anything they could that happened with time on the clock.
Say there was still time on the clock, they still can't go back and call a foul (even a technical) that was never called, correct? They could up- or downgrade a call, but can't use the replay to call something that was never called on the floor to begin with.

I think they can issue a tech for something, after the fact, as long as there is time on the clock. I think in this case, because the game handn't reaumed play yet. Not positive though.

It looked like Fears said something after the play that really ticked Garrison off. BG rushed to get in his face, and before it could escalate, Williams snatched up BG and got him outta there.
Williams showed up big time there. We absolutely needed that win. BG needs to learn to control himself a little. We almost had a controversial loss.

The head of officials probably gave him a $2000 bonus and said "next time you get $5000 if you are successful"...

I’m confused about the ref situation with Uk. It seems they are chirping at the players often this year and letting games get to physical. My understanding was most didn’t like Cal, but even with him they didn’t pull this crap. So why is UK experiencing this now? I have watched other SEC games and it wasn’t a shit show.

Which is horse crap because if they didn't call anything at that moment, there should be no reason to go look for it because the opposing coach said "go look, that UK player was taunting".

They should have just walked off the court. That they even entertained the idea of a possible technical really looks like they were paid to do so.

A theory someone here had was that the good ole boys are still mad about the BBN and Higgins incident. I can def see that being the case.

They actually did this to us this year, I think back in January. I was beside myself, but they stopped play, went to the monitor and came out with a foul that wasn't called. I believe it was Pat Adams, but I can't recall the game.

It’s possible they saw it live and didn’t want to immediately call it because of the significance of it, so they immediately went to the monitor to review it. I’m unashamedly a pro-Pope guy and an optimist but I’ll always do my best to take off the blue-tinted glasses and be honest about what i see. Frankly, I think we were fortunate all the way around with the last 30 seconds until the finish of the game officiating wise. Massive win, GBB!

I kind of feel bad for our coaches, Cal and Pope. You can sort of tell that Pope's learning how things are going to be now that he's at Kentucky. He's probably used to the game being played one way while at BYU, to now having to do things with one hand tied behind his back, and it's an adjustment.

It has to be so deflating to have to deal with this night in and night out. And you can't really say anything as the coach. If you do, the SEC and NCAA will come down on you even more, you're labeled a whiner, it can bleed over to the team, etc. You saw it so many times with Cal, where his body language is like "What can we even do here?".. same with Pope in that video. His body language said "We're gonna have to win this one on our own boys"

Refs cannot call anything after the final buzzer. They were making sure the clocks were at 0 before Garrison and the OK player got into it. No the ref cannot call anything. They league offices can suspend and such after the clock. If Refs could call something after the final buzzer then court storming would have techs all the time.

Agreed. Our collective chill on this topic could be helpful. Pope is chewing them out as he should and he figured to gain even more respect from the zebras over time imo
That will never happen as a tiny, selfish fraction of our fanbase has ruined it for the rest of us dating back to the losers that called Higgins' business. Granted some of them were probably U of L and UT scum, but some were UK fans.
