The announcers said it best. “Best player on the floor tonight”. He was best defensive player, best passer and pure shooter.
There were some questioning his defense when he picked UK. Guess they were wrong. The defensive pressure he applies on the ball is ridiculous.
No kiddingNeed to get more looks for him from the perimeter.
Yep. For the old schoolers reminds me of Mike Casey. Plays at his own tempo and has multiple multiple skills. Leader. Calm. Smart. Loves wearing that blue uni.Throwback player. Does all the little things that don't show up in the box score. Of course, his stats for today's game aren't shabby.
And we all know why. There were some questioning his defense when he picked UK. Guess they were wrong.
He is also a Ky kid who grew up loving UK basketball. Those kids play for the name on the jersey and pride of Uk basketball as well. Here's my take on Reed.
He's Jeff Sheppard's son and he has been around Kentucky basketball all of his life. This allows for the "aura" of Kentucky as a Kentucky boy to not be too big of a moment for him. This spotlight isn't too big for Reed. On top of that he's a highly intelligent player.
Yeah first half we had so many open shots not fall. We would have won by 60 had we hit even 20% of those looks. He should have had 3-4 more assists. Got his teammates wide open looks and made great on time passes. They just couldn't knock down the shots.
That's what stood out to me last night: we have a bunch of dudes who can pressure the hell outta the ball out front. When we get our rim protection back, this defense is going to be lethal.John Calipari has never been one to heap unwarranted praise on the players, especially this time of year, but he made a very interesting statement after the game last night. He said that Reed might be the best on the ball defender he's ever coached. I want you to think about that statement and remember that this is the same man who coached Michael Kidd Gilchrist, DeAndre Liggins, Cason Wallace, De'Aron Fox, and Tyler Ulis.
?????????And we all know why.
Maybe we should take a page from the NFL book and paint a sign on the court saying 'End racism.'
He has a calm demeanor about him in all aspects. He’s like that on the golf course too .Here's my take on Reed.

Last night was my first time seeing the team . Dillingham looks to me like he is just scratching the surface of what he can and eventually will be . He’s going to have some “what the heck ? “ moments but he’s going to have plenty of “Did you see that !” moments .Not to take away from Reed's excellent game play, but Dillingham looked very good to me. Mitchell and Wagner played well except their bad shooting from the 3
You just never know how a Kentucky boy will play early at UK. The pressure is huge! Seems like he's handling it well. He's very talented and he's gonna have to be a little more precise on a couple of the circus passes (which were insanely good, but just slightly off the mark). It's early though and this team is still getting used to each other's presence on the court. That's all those slight miscues were. Here's my take on Reed.

Yep. Good news is, with Mitchell haing a good outside shot, that's going to open up the lane. As our shooting got better last night, NMST had to come out from the lane (which they were packing 4 deep in the first half). And when that happened, Dilly and DJ took over. Reed too (which his strength is those outside jumpers which keeps a defense honest). On offense, I like Sheppard's poise when someone is close guarding him, and on defense, although he doesn't have blazing foot speed, he usually directs the guy who's getting past him to another defender. He knows where help is supposed to be.
Tangent: a staple before this game was Sheppard passing to an open Mitchell for a score. The cat is out of the bag about Mitchell's shooting. and last night he was guarded much more attentively.
Yeah he doesn’t usually do that and it’s good he notices because that will get him the most time. The thing that sticks out to me about Reed is how complete of a player he is. Those guys win a lot of games. Honestly reminds me of the great Villanova teams who’s guards did everything well.John Calipari has never been one to heap unwarranted praise on the players, especially this time of year, but he made a very interesting statement after the game last night.
