#29. Bryce Hubbart A- 21 Y/O
5 G, 7.1 IP, 6 BB, 12 SO, 1.23 ERA, 1.23 WHIP

The Reds selected LH pitcher Bryce Hubbart from Florida St in the 3rd round of the 2022 draft.

You can’t really tell anything from Bryce’s 2022 professional stats since he only threw 7.1 innings so I’ll list his 2022 Florida St stats.

15 games, all starts. 76 IP, 8-3 record. 21 BB, 96 SO. 3.32 ERA, 1.16 WHIP

Scouting report in Reds Minor Leagues says he sets 90-93 but has been up to 97. An above average curve and average slider. Also has a below average changeup that he rarely throws.

#28 Yerlin Confidant, Left handed outfielder signed with the Reds as an international free agent in July of 2019. The 2020 season was cancelled due to Covid and Yerlin didn’t play his first game till 2021 when he was assigned to the Arizona Complex League Reds. In that season he was named Arizona Complex Player of the year.
In 50 games in Arizona (2021) Yerlin had 192 PA hitting 315/359/573/932 with 12 BB and 48 SO. He had 11 HR and 7 SB

In 2022 Yerlin played 9 games in the AFL, 27 PA. 227/370/455/825 with 5 BB and 9 SO. He had 1 HR and no SB
Yerlin played 22 games at Daytona (A-) 76 PA. 246/355/369/725 with 11 BB and 22 SO. He had 1 HR and 1 SB

#27 Ariel Almonte is a 19 Y/O right-fielder from the Dominican Republic. He hits and throws left handed. He signed as an international free agent in 2021 for 1.9 million. Scouting repost on him says above average power. Below average speed. Good arm. Bats left and throws right. MLB pipeline has it wrong on the picture. Shoutout to James Kirby for noticing the glove was on the wrong hand in the picture.

Ariel’s first year in the Reds system was 2021. He spent the entire season in the Dominican Summer League playing 48 games, 196 plate appearances. 278/398/438/836 with 26 BB, 13.3% and 52 SO, 26.5 SO%. He had 5 HR and 15 SB

In 2022 Ariel came stateside to play in the Arizona Complex League. He played in 42 games 164 plate appearances. 286/390/493/883 with 21 BB, 12.8 BB% and 49 SO, 29.9 %. He had 6 HRs and 1 SB.

Tyler Stephenson was one of the bright spots of a tepid Reds offense that contributed to them finishing 62-100 and securing their first 100-loss season since 1982. The trouble was the Reds only called upon Stephenson in 50 games last year, and getting a full season out of their young catcher will be a huge boost to their lineup in 2023 and beyond.

As Bobby Nightengale of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports, the Reds are looking to utilize Stephenson in 140-150 games in 2023, but the majority of those appearances could come at designated hitter to try and protect his body from the rigors of catching. He did, after all, hit .319/.372/.482 with six home runs across 183 plate appearances so it’s no surprise that the Reds are trying to figure out the best way to get a full season’s worth of that offense.

The Reds have signed Curt Casali and Luke Maile to their roster and plan to carry three catchers throughout 2023, and Nightengale writes that the team could look to use Stephenson as a catcher twice a week, which would equate to 54 games over the course of the season, with Casali and Maile handling the rest.

Anything else would be criminal, TS and India the only true MLB hitters among the veterans although India's a defensive liability.

A smart move by the Reds organization after the disaster that happened behind the plate rotating minor league catchers in and out with Stephenson's season ending injury. The Reds acknowledge his value to this organization is his bat and being one the best hitters in the lineup. It's not a knock on him as a catcher but everything to do with how great of an offensive weapon he is to a lineup sorely lacking for consistent hitters. Everyone knows what the daily grind behind the plate does taking a toll on a catcher's body and many good catchers like Posey & Mauer retire in their mid-30s.

#25. RH pitcher Julian Aguiar was a 12th round selection in for 2021 draft. He only pitched 8.2 innings that season in the Arizona Complex league. Not enough for me to waste my time posting his stats.

In 2022 Julian started the season in Daytona. 23 games, 88.1 IP, 3.16 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, 103 SO, 22 BB

He was promoted to Dayton where he made 2 more starts. 8 IP, 6.65 ERA, 1.63 WHIP, 10 SO, 5 BB.

Julian’s FB is low to mid 90s. Also throws a slider and changeup.

#24 Javi Rivera, RH pitcher, was drafted in 2021 but didn’t make his professional debut till 2022 with the Daytona Tortugas.

24 G, 93 IP, 25 BB, 111 Ks
3.29 ERA, 0.99 WHIP

Javi has 4 pitches a fastball in the low 90s,a slider, a curve ball and a change up. Nothing really sticks out except his control. I love his WHIP, SO% and BB%

Javi should start next season in Dayton who should have a very good rotation.

#23. Jay Allen, RH centerfielder, was a supplemental pick in 2021. Upon joining the Reds organization he was assigned to the Arizona Complex League where he would play in 19 games, 75 plate appearances.
328/440/557/997 with 14 SB and 3 HR, 8 BB, 12 SO

Jay started the 2022 season in Low A, Daytona where he would play in 73 games. 299 plate appearances.
224/359/332/691 with 32 SB and 3 HR. 40 BB, 73 SO before being promoted to Dayton where he would play 18 more games. 84 plate appearances
230/301/299/599 with 12 SB and no HRs. 4 BB, 19 SO
Combined, Jay’s 2022 stats were
225/347/324/671
11.5 BB%, 24.0 SO%, 3 HR, 43 SB

Jay has above average speed and is considered a good defensive player. He’s only 20 years old so he has time to tap into a little more power and become more consistent with the bat.

#22 Allan Cerda 23 Y/O, RH, outfielder, was born in Bronx NY. Signed as an international FA in 2018.

Allan began his professional career for the DSL Reds in 2018 where he hit 272/402/439/841 with 25 BB and 45 SO in 214 PA. He had 6 HR and 3 SB.

In 2019 Allan would move up to play for the Greeneville Reds (Rookie League) where he would play 39 games with 165 PA. 220/360/470/830 with 20 BB and 56 SO. 9 HR, 2 SB

After missing the 2020 season due to Covid Allan would move up to Daytona to begin the 2021 season. He would play 66 games, 276 plate appearances. 242/362/524/886 with 31 BB, 85 SO, 14 HR, 1 SB

He would move up to Dayton that season for 21 games, 87 plate appearances. 273/356/520/876 with 10 BB, 20 SO, 3 HR, 1 SB

For the season. 259/361/523/884 with 41 BB, 105 SO, 17 HR, 2 SB ( he was caught stealing 8 times )

In 2022 Allan would begin the season back in Dayton, 62 games, 249 plate appearances. 219/370/488/857 with 13 HR, 3 SB, 42 BB, 91 SO

Allan would finish the season in AA Chattanooga, 62 games, 257 plate appearances 198/350/401/751 with 11 HR, 4 SB, 42 BB, 77 SO.

Combined stats

208/360/444/804 with 24 HR, 7 SB, 84 BB, 168 SO

In 2022 Allan hit 129/284/302 with 39% SO %. 6 HR against LH pitchers. Against RH pitchers he hit 240/389/509 with a 31% SO%. 18 HR

Allan is considered a good defensive

centerfielder. He needs to get his SO % down some but his BB% helps make it palatable, if he could get his BA up.

#21 Bryce Bonnin, RH pitcher, was selected in the 3rd round of the 2020 draft. He wouldn’t see the field untill 2021 when he would make one start in the Arizona Complex League (4 IP) before moving on to Daytona.
Bryce would play 7 games in Daytona, all of them starts. 32 IP, 8 BB, 44 SO, 0.81 WHIP, 1.41 ERA
Bryce would be promoted to Dayton for 3 games, all starts. 11 IP, 8 BB, 20 SO, 1.36 WHIP, 7.36 ERA

Bryce would start the 2022 season in Dayton where he would play 6 games. 5 of them starts. 25 IP before ending the season on the DL. 12 BB, 28 SO, 0.92 WHIP, 2.52 ERA

Bryce has a mid 90s fastball and a good slider. He also throws a changeup and curve that needs work. I think his injury was his shoulder but not sure. They are a lot more serious than the elbow now days. I hope he’s healthy to start the season.

Yeah, will Allen ever develop a power stroke? Reds have enough singles hitters among OFers.

Until Reds ownership has had enough of getting hit in the wallet with the empty stands and the uncertainty of the TV contracts going forward, you can expect Great American Ballpark to continue to look like a ghost town and damn near pick your own section to sit in alone. About the only thing that would bring a crowd to GABP would be another ten cent beer night.
What is the NFL doing that allows the Bengals to be contenders, but the Reds mired in a range from mediocrity to outright suck for perpetuity. What can MLB do to even the playing field?

I think it is a long shot for him to make the Reds out of spring training. I don’t really understand some of these signings. I wouldn’t want him taking ABs away from Cerda, Siani, Hopkins, Fairchild, Ramos, Lopez or Hernandez at Louisville. Seems like a waste of money. I know he’s not being paid much but you add him to Richie Martin and some of the pitchers they have added, it starts to add up.

Bats pretty much matched the Reds for futility in '22. Looks as if the FO is loading them up again on every hasbeen, neverwas, neverwillbe known to man.

I really appreciate your breakdowns and it’s very informative. The bad thing though is that as long as they have the current ownership, they will mismanage this talent for sure.

Completely agree, the last thing the Reds need is another marginal utility role player in the back half of his career keeping much more deserving prospects from getting time to develop at the MLB level in a rebuild. Especially what you said about adding up the contracts of these fringe players who are not going to help this Reds team all that much. Could have combined that money and either saved it for a contract extension or a more worthy player to fill out this roster.

Appreciate your work putting this together. Looks good on face value but I fully expect the Reds FO to continue slow dragging the prospects. Honestly think if the Reds had Judge or Acuna they'd be in High A this year.

Reds will have a lot of great prospects at every level this year. I’ll be writing something up for my Facebook group when it gets closer to the beginning of the season after I see who will be ready to play. I’m sure there will end up being some injuries that we haven’t heard about yet. I’ll post it here when I do.

#20 Christian Roa, RH pitcher, was drafted in the second round of the 2020 draft but didn’t see the field till 2021 because of Covid.
In 2021 Roa played 2 games in the Arizona Complex League, starting one game, 6.1 IP, and didn’t allow any runs.
Roa pitched in 5 games at Daytona, all starts, before being promoted to Dayton. 17.2 IP, 3.57 ERA, 1.53 WHIP, 9 BB, 21 SO
After his promotion to Dayton, Roa pitched in 8 games, 7 starts. 34.2 IP, 4.15 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, 15 BB, 37 SO.

Roa missed the first month of the season in 2022 before reporting back to Dayton where he would make 17 starts for the Dragons. 74 IP, 4.14 ERA, 1.45 WHIP, 48 BB, 83 SO.
Roa was promoted to Chattanooga to finish the season, making 3 starts. 17 IP, 1.06 ERA, 0.71 WHIP, 7 BB, 19 SO

Roa gave up 17 earned runs in his first 28 innings after coming back from injury. Over the last 63 innings of the season, he only gave up 19 earned runs.

#19 Joe Boyle, RH pitcher, was drafted in 2020. He didn’t make his pro debut till 2021 because of Covid. In 2021, Due to injury, he only had 4 starts in Arizona and 4 starts in Daytona. He combined for 19.2 IP, 14 BB, 41 SO, 2.29 ERA, 1.17 WHIP.

Joe began the 2022 season in A+ Dayton. 17 games. All starts, 74.2 IP. 59 BB, 122 SO, 2.17 ERA, 1.13 WHIP.
Joe was promoted to AA, Chattanooga where he played in 6 more games. 5 of them starts. 26 IP, 25 BB, 31 SO, 4.85 ERA, 1.77 WHIP

Joe has a high 90s fastball, a slider and a curve ball. He has the STUFF to be an ace but has a long way to go with his control.

#18 Michael Siani, LH centerfielder, was drafted in the 4th round of the 2018 draft. He would play 46 games that season, it rookie ball. 205 PA, 288/351/386/737, 16 BB, 35 SO, 2 HR, 6 SB

In 2019 Mike would play 121 games in A-. 531 PA, 253/333/339/672, 46 BB, 109 SO, 6 HR, 45 SB

After missing the 2020 season due to covid, Mike would move to A+ Dayton in 2021. He got a late start and was only allowed to DH for a while when he did come back. It seemed to affect him all season.
97 games, 408 PA, 216/321/327/648, 50 BB, 103 SO, 6 HR, 30 SO

Mike rebounded in 2022 playing 129 games in AA Chattanooga and AAA Louisville hitting 252/345/404/750 at those two levels with 65 BB, 95 SO, 14 HR, 52 SB

Mike has great speed. That l, and a very good arm, helps him to be a great defensive center fielder. He took a big step with his bat last season. Hopefully that continues on into 2023.

#17 Carlos Jorge, 2B, SS, bats L, throws R (I’ve really been looking forward to seeing Carlos in full season ball, one of my favorite prospects)
Signed as an international free agent in 2021 for $495,000. Unfortunately, I was unable to find a picture of Carlos.

Carlos, 17 Y/O, would play the 2021 season with the DSL Reds. 47 games, 188 PA. 346/436/579/1.015, 3 HR, 27 SB, 24 BB, 32 SO

In 2022 Carlos (18 Y/O) would come stateside to join the ACL Reds. 42 games, 154 PA. 261/405/529/935, 7 HR, 27 SB, 25 BB, 42 SO.

This is from Fangraphs. I believe it’s from a fantasy baseball prospective but still interesting.

Without question, my favorite prospect target at this position entering 2023 is Carlos Jorge from the Cincinnati Reds. For starters, Jorge is a plus runner that has run wild in the low minors with 54 steals in 89 games while only being caught nine times. It’s only rookie ball, but Jorge can definitely be a 20+ steal threat at the highest level, maybe approaching 30. As for his bat, that’s where Jorge gets undervalued. The AVG dipped to .261 in 2022, but many evaluators have projected him as an above-average or plus hitter and I’m 100% on board with it. Jorge’s swing is quick from the left side and direct to the ball with sneaky raw power. Jorge posted a .529 SLG and .268 ISO last season and projects to add more bulk to his 5’10 frame as well. Add in Great American Ballpark to all of this and the final product could see Jorge approaching or exceeding 20-homers annually depending on how much strength he adds moving forward. There’s a lot to like here in Jorge’s profile and I have a strong feeling he’s going to hit his way into my Top 25 overall by the end of 2023.

#16 Levi Stoudt, RH pitcher. 25 Y/O. Drafted in the 3rd round by the Seattle Mariners, in the 2019 draft.

Levi wouldn’t make his debut in pro ball till 2021, due to Covid. He would go straight to A+ Everett AquaSox where he started 12 games, 64 IP. 3.52 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, 29 BB, 67 SO.
Levi would be promoted to the AA Arkansas Travelers for 3 more starts before the end of the season. 17.2 IP, 2.55 ERA, 1.25 WHIP

Levi would go back to Arkansas to begin 2022 season. 18 games, 87 IP, 5.28 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, 22 BB, 82 SO before being traded to the Reds
Levi would make one start in Chattanooga before getting promoted to Louisville where he finished the season. 5 innings of 2 hit ball with 6 SO and 0 walks.
Levi made 6 starts in Louisville to finish the season. 19 IP, 3.32 ERA, 1.42 WHIP, 10 BB, 15 SO

Give Siani every chance to make the team out of ST to play CF. Need to see more than 24 ABs to get a real judgement on him. It's time the organization lets players like Siani, Hopkins & Fairchild get the opportunities Senzel has been taking at CF and giving the Reds nothing at the plate. A super utility role off the bench is Senzel's ceiling and certainly makes the Pinder signing a joke considering he is predominantly a corner outfielder/infielder. Never know what you have with these players until they get a real opportunity to shine.

?
Doesn't even need to be clogging ABs in AAA with the depth of infield prospects in the organization.
I don’t know much about him but he put up some good numbers in San Francisco last year and I saw someone post that he also put up good numbers in the minor leagues. He’s also listed as an outfielder. Like I said. I don’t know much about him but I do know we don’t really have any “sure thing” outfielders coming up anytime soon.

Some pop for MILB, 5 years ago was his best season with 23 HR/90 RBI in 2018 at AA & AAA in the Cubs system. Struck out about 28% at the plate last year. When he has hit for a higher average the power numbers dropped when he hit .291 in '19 and .295 in '21. Rather pedestrian numbers in his cup of coffee with the Giants in 2021 & 2022. With an infield logjam in the system, Fraley & Myers in the corner outfield spots not sure where his place is on this team. Since turning pro in 2015, never played a game in CF and the Reds need more depth in CF if than a Pinder or Vosler right now.

IMO, better off rolling with Solak, Fairchild or even Friedl in CF at this point. Still would rather see Siani get his chances with his speed and athleticism out there and feel a little bit higher on him than most do. I don't know how consistent of a hitter he will be long term at the MLB level but I think he can be a more polished offensive player than Hamilton if he gets his chances. Maybe Vosler does get his chances with the lack of outfield depth in the organization though I still feel the Reds will value more players like Friedl, Fairchild more and the versatility Senzel & Solak also provide between the IF/OF.

Wish Cincinnati would have taken a shot at Kevin Pillar buying low after a couple of injury plagued seasons before Atlanta scooped him up on a minor league deal. I love the way the dude plays the game with some average power numbers, gets around the base paths and highlight reel plays in the outfield. Some of this money going to these marginal players and Luke Weaver, it would have been nice to have scrounged enough up for Wacha who made $7 million in 2022 or a bounce back season on Dylan Bundy who has similar career numbers to Weaver but is more durable. The last couple of seasons have been rough but his 2016-17 & 2020 campaigns were pretty solid.

He had an .ops above .800 3 straight years from 2018-21 with .914 in 2021, .812 in his '22 callup with the Giants but finding him an everyday spot in the lineup over prospects who may actually have a long term future in this organization is the question. Likely a left hand bat off the bench or fill in at 1B if Joey has to miss time to start the year. As an outfielder, not sure that he has more upside than Siani or Hopkins who need time now before the outfielders in the lower levels progress in the system. There's nothing to lose in a rebuild to give any of them a shot in CF. Huge difference in getting it done at the AAA vs the MLB level. Would like to know why Vosler was signed and abruptly released by the Mariners though. Giants fans who follow closely seem to like his power potential and being a lefty in hitter friendly GABP has its perks. He versatility in the field makes should light a fire under players like Pinder, Senzel, Barrero, Newman & Solak. Though at 29 it is time to get it going.

#15 Victor Acosta, Switch hitting SS, was signed as an international free agent by the Dan Diego Padres in 2021 for 1.8 million. The Reds acquired Victor at the trade deadline for Brandon Drury.

In 2021 the then 17 Y/O, played for the DSL Padres. 56 games, 240 ABs 285/431/484/915, 38 BB, 45 SO, 5 HR, 26 SB

In 2022 Victor played in the ACL, splitting time between the Padres and Reds. 42 games, 165 innings. 237/348/360/707, 21 BB, 37 SO, 2 HR, 5 SB

Victor was a considered to be a very good defensive SS with a good arm. Offensively, he took a step back in 2022. OPS down over 200 points. He did show a good SO% and BB%. I think he will probably start the season in Daytona but wouldn’t be surprised if he was back in Arizona to start the season.

#14 Steve Hajjar, LH Pitcher. Drafted in the 2nd round, by the Minnesota Twins in 2021 and traded to the Reds in the Tyler Mahle trade.

Steve wouldn’t appear in a game till 2022 when he opened the season with the Twins Florida coast league team which is on par with the ACL. He would only appear in one game, 1.2 IP and giving up 4 earned runs
Steve’s next appearance would be for the Twins A- Ft Myers team. 12 games, all starts, 43.2 IP, 2.47 ERA, 1.076 WHIP, 22 BB, 71 SO before being traded to the Reds.
The Reds would move Steve to A+ Dayton where he would make 2 more starts before shoulder problems ended his season. 2 games, 7 IP, 6.43 ERA, 1.429 WHIP, 6 BB, 10 SO

#13 Ricardo Cabrera, RH, SS, signed in 2022 as an international free agent. Was ranked as the #3 international free agent available.

17 Y/O Ricardo would spend the 2022 season I playing for the DSL Reds. 45 games, 180 PA, 253/363/380/743, 13 BB, 40 SO, 1 HR, 5 SB

Ricardo got off to a very slow start but turned it on to finish the year.

In June he hit 120/274/200/474 with 19 SO in 62 PA
In July he hit 315/412/597/919 with
12 SO in 86 PA
In August he hit
310/382/345/727 with
9 SO in 29 ABs

Ricardo should be starting the season in the ACL. He is one of the players I am most wanting to see this year.

#12 Sal Stewart, RH, 3B was selected by the Reds in the 1st round of the 2022 draft. 32nd overall.

Sal was assigned to the ACL Reds where he would play 8 games and have 28 PA. 292/393/458/851
4 BB, 5 SO, 0 HR, 0 SB.

According to Doug Gray sal is an average to above average hitter with above average power. He is also a well below average runner, slightly below average defense with a strong arm. He thinks there is a good chance Sal moves to 1B in the future. Cam Collier who was drafted at the same time is also a 3B who some think will eventually move to 1B. I would think those 2 player may each play both positions this season in Daytona and see who is better where.
