Question about Travis Perry and NIL money...

It ended up being the number I stated. His sister is also getting a free ride to go there
Still don't believe it but if true he better contribute or he will have some pissed off teammates.
I'd love to know where Travis ranks in NIL on.the Ole Miss roster.
Not saying you're being dishonest but the math doesn't make sense with those numbers for Travis.
I'd rank Ole Miss in the bottom quarter of the SEC in regards to fan base interest in basketball and they also share the state with another conference school.
Just doesn't seem like a recipe to be spending like that on a reserve guard.

Have seen it said or implied that he will get much more NIL money at Ole Miss than he would get here if he stayed.
Can this be verified or is it just speculation ?
I just don't see the fit with him at Miss. Chris Beard plays a very hard nosed man to man defense and that is TPs weakness.
Based on what Mark Pope said yesterday I don't believe for a minute he was pushed out the door.
I guess the days of sitting and waiting your turn while working your tail off are long gone even for a kentucky kid who by all accounts grew up dreaming of playing here.
His actions compared to the attitude of Trent Noah is quite a contrast.
I do wish him well.
How many kids hold the state record for scoring in HS and go on to college to ride the bench? He feels he should be playing a bigger role on the court and chose to go to a school he feels he will get more playing time at.

I like his attitude and confidence in himself. He only has 4 years in college and if his goal is to play professionally, he will need time on the floor to showcase his talents. Nothing wrong with going somewhere else if he feels it in the right decision for him.

At least one member here says he took a pay cut.

I don’t understand them paying him 3x what UK was paying. Comparable pay seems more realistic than 2 or 3x.

No announcement or thanks says more to me than anything, and it doesn’t paint him in a positive light.
At the end of the day it doesn't really matter what our fans think. Nobody thought he would be recruited by Alabama and ole miss either and they were 2 of the 5 big programs.

People need to move on. He's the 13th man and isn't important to UKs succeed next season. Oweh is and he hardly gets any talk compared to the number of perry tthreads on here.
Seriously? There's seemingly a new post weekly with multiple pages of people wondering what we do if Oweh stays in the draft.

Unfortunately, I think UK fans will let him know how they feel for the rest of his life. It’s his life and he is a big boy now so I’m sure he can handle it.

Yeah, but he won't be a legend. Obviously, you just don't get it. If he would've stayed all four years at UK, he would have a GUARANTEED sales job at any car dealership in Kentucky.

I get the argument that he doesn't defend like the typical Beard player, but that could be part of the logic behind picking Ole Miss. He could be looking at it as a chance to drastically improve his defense.
You may be right on this.

Is this sarcasm lol?
I'm sure Travis see himself as more of owning the dealership instead of selling.

He was the last man on the bench for a reason. Wasnt just posters here, his coach thought that too, as indicated by the guys we brought in.

It wasnt like he didn't get his chances, Perry just couldn't compete. Eventually he would've contributed here but i guess somehow his camp thought he deserved that shot this year.

Jmo it was perceived lack of respect rather than money that drove the transfer. That's why no goodbye post.

IMO he never bought into putting out the kind of effort Noah did. He was the classic Cal "I can't hide you" type player.

You don't have to believe it, doesn't really matter to me if you do or don't, i do know who said it is very close to the situation and I'll leave it at that

Yes. He was making fun of the people who think riding the bench at UK is some kind of golden ticket for life in Kentucky. It’s the weirdest thing.

Because we watched him play all season. It still doesn't make sense. There is zero indication IMO that he can make it in the SEC. Clearly Beard disagrees. But I can't unsee just how unprepared and uncompetitive he looked out there. Has NOTHING to do with lack of opportunity or minutes. He got more opportunities than Noah last year, but he never looked nearly as comfortable on either end of the court.

Let it go. Focus on players that want to be here.

Why is that weird? He's a Kentucky guy. He said it was his dream to play here. He always knew he would be riding the pine for at least a couple years. I think it's much "weirder" for him to run to frickin Ole Miss of all places at the first hint of adversity.

As someone who lives in Lex it absolutely CAN be a golden ticket for a player if they play their cards right and use their connections to invest properly.
He's not a pro level talent so he would be wise to plan for his post-playing career. Don't think he'll get those opportunities in Oxford.

The stereotypes regarding college players who don't make the NBA are pretty weird also. Maybe Travis Perry aspires to be a physician and recognizes the current explosion of NIL money as his opportunity to bank the capital he would need to purchase a nice medical practice and embark on his career debt-free.

So would you want to do that in your native Kentucky where everyone knows you and would want to support your business? Or Mississippi where no one knows who you are?
Do you really think Ole Miss is paying him significantly more than us? Why would they do that? Realistically.
We have a good team coming up. With good players that can actually contribute to this league. I don't know why some posters keep wanting to write fanfic about why Travis left. He did not want to be here. That's it. The lack of a goodbye sends that message.
If you get rejected at the bar by a 3/10, are you gonna cry all night about it?

From what I understand coach Beard LOVES him & has a plan for his game. Playing time was the most important factor but he did get more money also.
Pope wanted him to stay, but Perry clearly was intimidated/ (scared) to compete.
He doesn't have the team's best interest at heart wherever he's at ... instead of encouraging great players to come in around him ... he wants the coaches to let him be the main focus.
With that mind set, we would have never had a team like the 96 championship team.
I say good riddance.

Because UK fans have this weird thing where if anyone leaves UK they do this “he could’ve been beloved in this state forever if he would’ve just stayed here and rode the bench, but now we are indifferent to him or might even hate him because he left.” Quadruple the sentiment for Kentucky born players.

It’s seemingly a Lexington-centric mindset as well. I grew up just down the road in a surrounding county and have heard it my whole life. And it’s almost like no one bothered to consider why some of these players leave in the first place and the fact that maybe all of them don’t want to be public figures in Lexington for the rest of their lives based on something they did when they were 18-22.

It’s basically, “How dare you pursue your career how you want to. Don’t you know we, the fans, know what’s best for you? We would’ve loved you forever if you did your career the way we wanted you to. But you wanted to play instead of watch, and we are taking it personally, so we withdraw our lifetime of loving you.”

Sure but do we have an obligation to continue supporting him? He left to go to a conference rival. Why shouldn't I be indifferent to him? I barely could stomach watching him play point here, I'm sure as hell not gonna be actively rooting for him at Ole Miss.
I don't wanna bash the guy but he's getting paid, at a minimum, six figures to play a game. Poorly. Many people are WAY better at their jobs than Perry and they never sniff that kind of money. So yes given all that, I would absolutely have stayed and rode the bench at UK. Which he most likely will do in Mississippi anyway

Exactly. He always played for his father before UK. That is a big part of this

It used to be less-than-athletic Kentucky high school stars would be honored to ride the bench at UK for four years. Now they get millions of dollars to play at lesser schools. My how times have changed,
For the better imo. He gets life changing money and from organizations and institutions that can afford it.

Why does ANYONE care what his NIL was when the vast majority of this board considered him the last man on the bench?
It kinda explains why he left. I think he would have been far down the bench. In time he may turn out to be a good player.

Im sure there is a plan: parked on the bench. I guess he will be the 9th guy off the bench instead if the 12th.

Congrats on the promotion i guess.

So bottom line, why did he not put out a goodbye message to the Big Blue Nation upon his decision to transfer ?
Has their ever been another player in the social media age to leave us and not put out a message thanking the fans, coaches etc ?
I thought that was standard procedure.

In today's world, the lack of a goodbye tweet has to be a deliberate message. Same with Reed wearing the ARK shirt. They know what they're doing.

I’m among those who choose to be skeptical of the numbers while at the same spending less and less time paying any attention to Power 4 athletics.

I can't wait for the majority of these NIL athletes to hit the real job market.
In 5-10 yrs they'll release a 30 for 30 about the struggles of athletes adjusting financially.
There is actually a lot a statistic that 60% of NBA players are broke within 5 years. I imagine once there is some data out there it will actually be a lot worse at the college level.
