Have seen it said or implied that he will get much more NIL money at Ole Miss than he would get here if he stayed.
Can this be verified or is it just speculation ?
I just don't see the fit with him at Miss. Chris Beard plays a very hard nosed man to man defense and that is TPs weakness.
Based on what Mark Pope said yesterday I don't believe for a minute he was pushed out the door.
I guess the days of sitting and waiting your turn while working your tail off are long gone even for a kentucky kid who by all accounts grew up dreaming of playing here.
His actions compared to the attitude of Trent Noah is quite a contrast.
I do wish him well.

At least one member here says he took a pay cut.

I don’t understand them paying him 3x what UK was paying. Comparable pay seems more realistic than 2 or 3x.

No announcement or thanks says more to me than anything, and it doesn’t paint him in a positive light.

This on the last part.

People need to move on. He's the 13th man and isn't important to UKs succeed next season. Oweh is and he hardly gets any talk compared to the number of perry tthreads on here.

I don’t understand that at all honestly. We all know it’s written by others anyway for them most times if not all. In his case I would have expected him to do it himself in some way.

Heard at a softball tournament that Lyon Co. played in this past weekend that he got 2.1 million for 2 years
They overpaid him then. Bottom line he’s not a million dollar player but good for him. I hope he does very well, but he will never be able to defend at an SEC level in my opinion. Maybe he gets good enough to be hidden or a some type scheme to help him.

I think it just came down to playing time/role. He saw who was coming in and put the pieces together that he wouldn’t be high on the totem pole. Granted, I find Ole Miss to be a weird spot for him and wouldn’t be shocked to see him back in the portal next year.

I think in the age of social media, there’s a good chance that he wanted to get away from the intense scrutiny of being a Kentucky guy on the Kentucky team. That’s a random guess, but he got so much fan focus vs his actual role on the team than any other player (by a lot) and unlike Noah, he didn’t show any major flashes of things to come. Most of the fan sentiment was, “we could take or leave him; we’re not impressed,” and I imagine plenty of other young adults would make the same decision in the same situation.

Not being nasty but Trent Noah in all of the comments he makes seems to embrace the whole KY deal as a KY kid.
For whatever your opinion is of Cal is now he was right about one thing, this place ain't for everybody.

I think Beard having so much defensive focus actually may actually mean he can take advantage of Perry more than we did last year. In many cases having Perry on the floor at the high Div 1 level is playing 4 on 5 defense. But when your team defense is so good that you can get away with 4 on 5 sometimes, it may be worth trying to torch the other team from the perimeter in spurts. Especially while they’re resting their best penetrating guards. Make them pay any time they take a rest and you almost set up like a pressing-without-pressing situation.

It might not work but it might work well.

Imo it’s a shame he decided to go to Mississippi to be used that way. Especially when I bet Pope would have used him that way this year with our incoming roster. Oh well.

It does suck about him not saying goodbye to the fans. My best guess on that would be he stressed about it because the more he tried to say something nice, the more inauthentic it would sound since he is leaving. So he probably got sick of stressing about it and just wrote it off as a loss. Probably wiser to have opted for saying something nice in just a short, canned tweet. But if it really was insincerity he was shying away from I can definitely appreciate it. Would probably have handled it the same way myself at least at that age. Well, if I had transferred, which I wouldn’t have.

That’s a good point but usually when you point of attack on defense is not good that breaks the eintire defense structure down. Maybe they find a player to kinda hide him on other than strictly a PG, but his height will really put him at a disadvantage there in the post/ trying to stop a Jump shot as well.

I think it was $700k per year- but that was just one number at one point in time. Could have gone up.

All I know is the word is he was making about $200,000 at UK and Ole Miss is offering $600,00 have no idea if this is true.

He is getting much more by leaving.
If this is true then Travis Perry made the same smart decision that a lot of college athletes are making. If you can't expect to earn a lot of money in the professional ranks, you have to seize that income while you can. In this NIL era, we will see men's college basketball and football players earn financial security for life, even if they don't have promising pro careers. I certainly can't blame them for doing so.

Not at all, anyone would love the opportunity to increase their earning potential 3-4 times what it currently is.

Bottom line he probably did much better for himself both in NIL money and PT. I think most people would do the same given the opportunity. The kid probably doesn’t play Pro ball so this is his chance to put $ in the account.

Set for life with this amount of money.

I can't wait for the majority of these NIL athletes to hit the real job market.
In 5-10 yrs they'll release a 30 for 30 about the struggles of athletes adjusting financially.
When they do they're much better off than the players who came before them.
Do you think Dominique Hawkins left UK with enough money to pay cash for a nice house?

This number is probably closer to reality than the 2.1 m for 2 yrs.
Perry's NIL numbers have to align with the rest of the roster and I don't believe Ole Miss has 8-10 million invested in a 13-15 man roster.

Why does ANYONE care what his NIL was when the vast majority of this board considered him the last man on the bench?
There's probably some syndrome name for it, but it's kind of like this: He's from Kentucky, so some people feel like he belongs to UK (us). They will put him down by acting like he's no good and can't do any better, and that he owes it to UK (us) to stay because we're doing him a favor by letting him grace our presence. But when he actually does leave, then they will get mad because the control is gone and this is somehow a betrayal of everything that UK (we) did for him.

I'm not disputing what you said. But I've watched him, he's a set shooter. Struggles shooting the ball off the dribble. Limited athletically and has a weak bounce going downhill to the basket!

Let's be honest, He's an average midlevel player at best!

He was the last man on the bench for a reason. Wasnt just posters here, his coach thought that too, as indicated by the guys we brought in.

It wasnt like he didn't get his chances, Perry just couldn't compete. Eventually he would've contributed here but i guess somehow his camp thought he deserved that shot this year.

Jmo it was perceived lack of respect rather than money that drove the transfer. That's why no goodbye post.

I certainly agree with this. Ole Miss does not have the kind of NIL money for basketball to pay $2.1 m for 2yrs, for Kentucky's 13th man. I seriously doubt he is making as much as some starters for the Ole Miss football team. Why would he?

I believe Travis Perry wanted out at Kentucky and would have gone to Ole Miss for the same amount Kentucky offered to pay him. There is no doubt his family and or handlers were searching for a team the minute the portal opened. Perry wanted out and odds are will never return to Kentucky. Kentucky will always have too much talent.

I highly doubt Travis is getting a million a year. If he is then no wonder he went there.

The reason I disagree is because he waited until hours before the portal closed to enter it. What would be the purpose of waiting until the last minute if he had been searching for a different team all along?

To me the Aberdeen commitment was the one that pushed Travis to the portal.

I don’t think he was dead set on transferring the second the UT game in the tournament ended.

If I had to choose, I will take Aberdeen 1000 times out of 1000
