KENTUCKY HC MARK STOOPS:
* Stoops says he doesn't think he's been through anything like this game during his time here. They've been beaten by some good teams before, but the team always kept fighting. Did not get that today. Today, it didn't look like we were a very well-coached team, and a team that didn't respond. No excuses. They beat us in every facet.
* Says BVG took a shot late in the game, and they just wanted to get Gavin some reps.
* SC clearly affected the QB today. BVG's comfort level was never there.
* Really upset with that 2nd & 1 jet sweep call early in the game when they were running it well. Put them back behind the chains. Says he has to take responsibility for that as HC and make sure that doesn't happen.
* On the optimism for the O-Line in the preseason, is there a disconnect? They didn't play very well. Nobody really did. But they need to play at a higher level.
* On whether the problems are fixable? They have to be. They better come Monday ready to work and compete next week. Have to work and pay attention to details.
* On the decision to go for it on 4th down... Bad decision, obviously. Probably pressed a little bit out of frustration. Cost us 3 points.
* On the message to the team... In so many words, what I just said. We have to fight back.
* On the penalties... Didn't see that coming. It isn't our nature. Shows we were undisciplined today.
* Jager Burton looks to be out for a bit. Would be surprised if he was back next week.
* South Carolina played a heckuva lot better today than they did last week. We need to do the same thing next week.
* Not good enough, not acceptable, Stoops said in regard to the effort today.
* Thought this was a cleaner, more focused week of practice than last week. That's what makes the results even crazier. There were things that happened today that I can't explain.
* Have to get more balance on offense. Ran the ball well at times, but have to protect better so that we can get some play-action and passing down the field.
